Supervises: All staff and volunteers
Position Summary:
The Executive Director of United Way of Eastern Frontier Country (UWEFC) provides strategic, operational, and community leadership to advance the organization’s mission: to strengthen communities by mobilizing resources to collaborate for the common good. Primary areas of responsibility include fiscal operations, management, external relations, and strategic planning.
The Executive Director is responsible for leading a multi-county organization that drives measurable impact across key focus areas including Financial Security, Healthy Community, Youth Opportunity, and Community Resiliency. This role oversees all aspects of organizational performance, including fundraising, financial stewardship, program implementation, community partnerships, and board engagement.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Fiscal Operations
- Directs and coordinates annual fundraising campaign, including special events, corporate partnerships, and grants.
- Directs, oversees, and maintains the prudent and proper fiscal management of the agency, including budgeting, cash management, payroll, payment and accounting, financial reporting, forecasting, analysis and audit
- Coordinates allocation process for UWEFC partner agencies, grant requests and appropriations and policy implementation/compliance
Management
- Coordinates general board and board committee activities, including orientation, policy development, agenda, and business activities
- Prepares annual calendar and goals
- Manages agency employees (paid and unpaid) and fosters strong relationships with volunteer leadership
- Manages office and agency, including building, capital needs assessment, systems, and processes
External Relations
- Builds and promotes positive and supportive relationships with UWEFC partner agencies, and assists them in their resource, leadership, and development needs
- Fosters continued support from UWEFC donors/friends and seeks out new potential UWEFC donor
- Coordinates and monitors accreditation process to follow United Way Worldwide
- Promotes the value/importance/impact of UWEFC programs and services to the community at-large (business leaders, civic organizations, etc.) and seeks out new partnerships for the annual campaign
- Serves as referral and clearinghouse for community services
- Utilizes data and community assessments to guide decision-making and measure impact
- Maintains positive, proactive, and professional public relations with the media, employers and the general community, so as to promote the positive goodwill of the UWEFC and its partner agencies
Strategic Planning
- Understands the changing social, competitive, economic, and giving environment facing the United Way
- Develops innovative approaches to meet the challenges of the changing environment
- Assists Board of Directors in establishing the strategic plan for effectively operating UWEFC
- Acts as a catalyst for needed change and leads staff, volunteers, and the community to accept and implement new initiatives
- Carries out additional responsibilities as assigned by the Board of Directors in alignment with organizational priorities and strategic goals.
Preferred Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience
- Two or more years of direct supervisory experience of employees and/or volunteers
- Ability to work flexible hours in order to meet the needs of the community and the expectations of the Board of Directors (to include some evenings and weekends)
- Experience working with individuals of diverse backgrounds
- Strong record of successful relationships with volunteer leadership
- Proven skills as a leader and team builder
- Demonstrated ability in planning, problem solving, fundraising, marketing, and strategic thinking
- Excellent communication skills: oral, written, and interpersonal
- Strong financial management and analytical skills
- Computer applications proficiency
- Strong organizational, managerial, and public speaking skills required
Compensation:
Salary range: $55,000-$65,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
