Valid driver's license required and must be insurable by the University's insurance carrier. Grade 7 (Hourly)
Position Description:
The Foreman, Plumber for the Health Science Campus (HSC) supervises the installation, maintenance and repair of all plumbing systems including distilled and demineralized water distribution systems, safety deluge shower and eye wash systems, campus water main, subsoil drainage and distribution system in accordance with standards; providing information on the proper uses of equipment, identifying repair and/or replacement needs; monitoring and maintaining plumbing systems; providing information on the operation of plumbing systems and supporting other trades in completing work assignments.
This is a required personnel position that necessitates the employee's physical presence in the workplace. The employee must also report to or remain at work during university emergencies or closures and maintain a valid driver's license that is insurable under the University's insurance policy.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervise and oversee assigned mechanical personnel and daily activities and operations (e.g. hiring, assigning, scheduling, prioritizing, follow-up, evaluating, training, advising, coordinating, disciplining etc.) for the purpose of ensuring that assignments are completed in a safe, proper, and timely manner and maximizing the efficiency of the workforce.
- Collaborate and assist with the coordination of day-to-day maintenance activities for the purpose of ensuring the proper and efficient maintenance and repair of plumbing systems. Respond to emergency situations during and after hours for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
- Coordinates with contractors, department contacts, and other trades for the purpose of completing projects/work orders efficiently.
- Plans and lays out work from oral and written instructions; assigns and supervises the work of plumbing personnel engaged in the installation, repair, and maintenance of water, air, gas, sewer, steam, and hot water heating and distribution systems; supervises and inspects the installation and repair of plumbing pipes, sinks, traps, valves, faucets, vents, pumps, and similar equipment, fixtures, and apparatus, meeting required building codes and plumbing codes.
- Conducts regular inspections of work in progress and on completion; participates in the more complex plumbing tasks
- Implements the execution of routine and preventative maintenance programs (e.g. systems for collection of work projects, prioritization, planning, and scheduling of work projects; adjusting work schedules in response to changing priorities; and documenting and communicating information, etc.) for the purpose of maximizing customer service and efficient and effective operations.
- Estimate, obtain permits, and procure materials and/or equipment needed to complete work projects for the purpose of ensuring timely completion of projects.
- Prepares reports and written material related to assigned activities (e.g. records of refrigerant, daily paperwork/log, time and materials, specifications, and recommendations for capital renewal projects, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities and/or conveying information.
- Maintains vehicles, tools, and equipment for the purpose of ensuring the availability of safe operating conditions.
- Maintains a variety of files and records (e.g. timesheets, inventory, work orders, labor/material estimates, purchasing records, equipment repair manuals, etc.) for the purpose of providing an up-to-date reference and tracking expenditures. Must have computer experience.
Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
