Position Summary
| Brief Description of PSU/School/Dept | The mission of the Facilities and Property Management (FPM) department is to create and maintain an appealing campus environment that contributes to attracting and retaining students, faculty and staff at Portland State University. The campus environment is composed of an estimated 44 acres and 50 buildings of green space, academic classrooms/offices, administration and student housing/activity/recreation facilities. |

| Position Summary | FPM is seeking an experienced Grounds Worker 2 to perform landscaping and maintenance tasks for campus grounds, and apply their expertise in horticulture (including irrigation/water management, tree care/arboriculture and integrated pest management/pesticide application) to create and maintain a safe and vibrant campus environment. The role includes turf and plant care; exterior maintenance; landscaping maintenance, planning and design; equipment maintenance and repair. FPM is recognized as an exceptionally talented team built from a diverse group of individuals who are passionate about providing the highest levels of quality craftsmanship, customer service and teamwork through sustainable practices and who take pride in supporting the mission of the University. All facilities maintenance personnel are considered essential personnel and may be required to respond to campus emergencies, including inclement weather. This is a permanent full-time position within an innovative team-oriented environment located in downtown Portland, and includes a comprehensive benefits package with paid time off including paid sick time, paid holidays and paid vacation days, 95% employer-funded premium healthcare, 100% employer-funded retirement plans, and 70% off of tuition for the employee, dependent children, and your spouse or domestic partner. This position is represented by SEIU 89. | Minimum Qualifications from Classification | -Pesticide applicator's license may be required based on position duties; AND -Two years experience as a grounds keeper which included plant care; OR -An Associate's degree in Landscape Technology or Horticulture; OR -Completion of a Landscape Certification program or license in a horticultural specialty. |
| Additional Minimum Qualifications for this Position | Must possess, or be able to possess, pesticide applicator's license within six months of employment. Successful completion of a background check. Possession of a valid state-issued driver's license. |
| Preferred Qualifications | Two year Associates degree in horticulture or similar degree or certification and concentration in landscape maintenance. |

| Total Compensation Range & Benefits Statement | The starting hourly salary rate for this position will be between $20.19 and $22.84. The starting salary will be dependent upon the knowledge, experience, skills and abilities of the chosen candidate, the budget of the hiring department, and approval from HR. Portland State has an excellent benefits package including 95% employer-paid health insurance premiums (employees and eligible dependents) and significantly reduced tuition rates for employees and eligible dependents at any of the Oregon Public Universities. After completing six full months employees are eligible to the employer-paid pension program in addition to two voluntary retirement programs.
