OverviewThe Cosumnes Community Services District ("District") Parks and Recreation Department invites qualified and enthusiastic candidates to apply for the Golf Professional position within the Park & Golf Operations Division. This position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact by delivering high-quality recreation programs that enrich the lives of youth and the community.
Position Description:Under general supervision, plans, organizes, and supervises the golf shop operations, special events, private and group lessons, leagues and clubs for the golf course.
The golf course is open seven days a week, year round. Candidates must be willing to work holidays, weekends, and evenings. The golf course is open as early as 5 a.m. and closes as late as 10 p.m.
Salary Information:
The Recreation Coordinator's salary range is between $30.74 - $43.25 per hour. The District typically appoints new employees at step 1 of the salary range. Consideration for an appointment higher than step 1 will be based on experience, education, or the need for unique skills or knowledge, and shall be no more than the midpoint of the salary range.
Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. - Develops, plans, promotes, implements, schedules and evaluates pro shop operations, special events, private and group lessons, leagues and clubs at golf course;
- Assigns, schedules, and reviews the work of lower level workers; ensures department standards for safety, facility and golf course and golf shop operations are met;
- Provides courteous and professional service to all program participants, facility users, CSD personnel and the public; ensures staff provides a high degree of service to both internal and external customers;
- Acts as a liaison to the public; answers questions and handles customer complaints; directs lower level workers in on-site communication with parents, participants and the public; discusses program concerns and participation issues; provides solutions when appropriate;
- Enforces rules and regulations of programs and facilities as mandated by CSD policies;
- Conducts work tasks safely and in compliance with Department safety standards and the CSD Injury and Illness Prevention Program;
- Purchases supplies in accordance with District purchasing policies; assists manager with approval and processing of bills and payments for services, materials and supplies;
- Completes and maintains reports and forms as necessary;
- Recommends and provides feedback to supervisory staff regarding hiring, training, evaluation, discipline and salary of lower level workers;
- Required to work a variety of shifts including, but not limited to weekends, holidays and after hour emergency calls;
- Assists in creating and developing marketing strategies;
- Assists Golf Course Manager in preparing budget, daily deposits and timesheets; may collect and review timesheets of lower level workers;
- May plan and conduct staff meetings and participate in program planning and preparation;
- May recruit, select, train, schedule and provide day to day lead direction to volunteers of the golf course.
Experience Required
- High school diploma or equivalent; college or technical school training in golf course operations may be substituted for the non-supervisory experience on a year-for-year basis to a maximum of two years.
Experience:
- Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience as a Golf Professional including experience in golf course operations with one (1) year in a lead or supervisory capacity.
- Must possess a current PGA license or an apprentice PGA license as a golf professional and maintain it throughout employment;
- Possession of, or the ability to obtain, First Aid and CPR/AED certification within the first thirty (30) days of employment; certification must be maintained through employment;
- Must possess a valid California class "C" driver's license, with a satisfactory driving record as determined by the District and maintain it throughout employment.
Essential Responsibilities
- The game of golf and techniques on how to play; techniques and skills required to plan and instructing private and group golf lessons;
- Basic methods, terminology, principals, techniques, and materials used in the operations of a golf course and golf shop;
- Developing and coordinating effective marketing programs and special events designed to showcase the golf course and provide the public with an ongoing source of community activities;
- Safety practices and procedures related to golf course and golf shop operations, safe and effective use of hand and power tools;
- Current methods, techniques, principles, and procedures used in customer service, financial accounting and recordkeeping such as daily transaction entry, fee checks, and reviewing daily revenue reports and preparing bank deposits;
- Principles and techniques of supervision, training, discipline, and performance evaluation;
- Computer database programs, desktop publishing and word processing in currently used programs such as Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel;
- Basic operation of automated office machines including cash register, calculator, computer, keyboard, printers and other peripherals, copier, and fax machine;
- Basic arithmetic including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division; calculation of decimals, ratios, percentages and fractions.
Ability to:
- Lead the work of others including the assigning, reviewing, planning and coordination of work; providing clear instruction and guidance on a day to day basis;
- Analyze and use independent judgment in golf course and golf shop operation practices and functions;
- Apply principle of rational systems such as operating cash register and handling cash;
- Provide instruction and guidance to staff, contract instructors and participants;
- Comprehend and prepare reports and forms such as accident reports, incident reports, inventory lists, e-mail and calendars using a prescribed format and conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction and style;
- Proficiently operate computer programs such as those in the Microsoft Office Suite;
- Comprehend and correctly use a variety of informational documents such as, but not limited to, time sheets, blue prints, safety manuals, instruction manuals, personnel handbook, policies and procedures;
- Effectively and tactfully communicate both orally and in writing with facility users, independent contractors, vendors, volunteers, CSD personnel and the public.
- Mobility: frequent use of keyboard; frequent sitting at desk and in meetings for long periods of time; occasionally reaching and twisting to reach equipment surrounding desk; occasional walking, standing, bending, stooping, and squatting; occasional pushing, pulling or lifting up to fifty (50) pounds;
- Vision: constant use of overall vision; frequent computer use; occasional color and depth vision;
- Dexterity: frequent repetitive motion; frequent writing and typing; frequent grasping, holding and reaching; frequent operation of office equipment, computers, cash register, clerical supplies and golf course related supplies and equipment;
- Hearing/Talking: frequent hearing and talking in person and on the phone; Ability to hear and see with sufficient acuity to identify maintenance problems requiring service and repair;
- Emotional/Psychological: frequent public and/or coworker contact; occasionally works alone;
- Driving: ability to use fine and gross motor coordination for driving.
