Nature of Work: This is professional supervisory work managing the golf operations, food and beverage service, and pro-shop functions of municipal or championship golf courses. Work involves managing an 18-hole and/or two or more 9-hole facilities, including associated clubhouses, pro shops, and concessions areas. Responsibilities include supervising the rental of City-owned equipment, collection of fees, and related financial accounting and reporting. Public relations are a continuous requirement. Independence is exercised in the performance of duties under general guidance from the Golf Manager. Depending on the assigned facility, employees may have the option of living in residential facilities provided by the City.
Experience Required
Knowledge of, and ability to operate, computers and other technology using standard or customized computer or systems software applications appropriate to the assigned tasks. Knowledge of the rules of golf and methods of play. Knowledge of methods, procedures, and techniques involved in the overall operation of golf courses. Knowledge of the operation of an 18-hole golf course, its maintenance and staffing. Knowledge of the objectives and methods used in planning, organizing, promoting and operation of golf leagues, tournaments, and open play. Knowledge of general business and sales operations and procedures including point of sale software, inventory controls and cash handling procedures. Skill in providing instruction on the play of the game and the mechanics of swinging a golf club. Skill in planning and overseeing the operation of an 18-hole golf course program, including league formation, tournament scheduling, and tournament administration. Skill in maintaining accurate records of receipts, disbursements, and handicaps, and in preparing reports detailing them. Skill in preparing clear and concise reports. Skill in utilizing Point of Sale (POS) and Microsoft Office applications at a proficient level. Ability to learn and use department specific software. Ability to learn and adapt to advances in computer, mobile, and electronic device technology and software. Ability to hire, train, schedule, provide work direction, discipline, and oversee the work of subordinate personnel. Ability to stimulate interest in the game of golf and the use of the City's golf courses. Ability to communicate to respond to patron inquiries and explain and enforce golf rules and regulations. Ability to effectively manage conflict. Ability to identify customer service needs and establish customer service standards. Ability to understand written or oral instructions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and members of the general public. Ability to adhere to safety policies, procedures, and guidelines. Ability to stand and walk continuously, and to reach, balance, bend, stoop, kneel, and push occasionally. Ability to move objects weighing up to fifty (50) pounds occasionally, weighing up to twenty (20) pounds frequently, and weighing up to ten (10) pounds continuously.

Manages golf services for an 18-hole and/or two or more 9-hole facilities, including clubhouses, pro shops, and concession areas. Hires, trains, schedules, provides direction, disciplines, and oversees the work of sales, maintenance, and seasonal subordinate staff. Assists in developing clubhouse budgets; monitors operations within established limits and implements system controls to preserve assets and inventory. Collaborates with Golf Course Superintendents on construction projects, scheduling, course alterations, and maintenance. Oversees the reservation system, monitors play, maintains strict tee-time scheduling, and ensures accurate fee collection. Manages pro-shop merchandise as a retail venture and supervises all aspects of food and beverage preparation and service. Develops, coordinates, and promotes quality golf programs, organizes leagues, scores tournaments, and computes handicaps. Manages and oversees golf cart rentals, ensuring fleet security, and reports damage or breakdowns to mechanics. Responds to patron inquiries and complaints, enforces course regulations, and represents the City to public groups and golf professionals. Maintains regular job attendance in accordance with a schedule established for the position by the supervisor. Performs other related duties as assigned or as the situation dictates within the scope of this classification.
