MnDOT’s Grow Our Own (GOO) Program is designed to assist individuals interested in the heavy equipment mechanic field, by providing on the job training to acquire the necessary skills and experience to qualify for a Heavy Equipment Mechanic position with MnDOT. The Heavy Equipment Service Attendant assists Heavy Equipment Mechanics by performing diagnosis of mechanical defects of heavy equipment; assist mechanics with scheduled and unscheduled maintenance of equipment; conduct hydraulic repairs, electrical problem solving, and assist in major body work and modifications; serve and maintain light and heavy equipment. This is an on-site position is based in the Duluth Equipment Repair Shop (Duluth, MN).

Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- Knowledge of heavy equipment service and repair procedures and techniques sufficient to repair minor equipment failures and assist mechanic in major overhauls.
- Ability to use heavy equipment machine and hand tools to diagnose minor equipment repair problems.
- Knowledge of basic math.
- Computer experience sufficient to work in specific DOT databases (scheduling systems.)
- A valid class D driver’s license.
- Possession of a valid Class B driver’s license within 6 months of hire.
In addition to the preceding minimum qualifications, you will be assessed on the following if interviewed:
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions to act upon directions from a maintenance supervisor, foreman, or mechanic.
