JOB DESCRIPTIONWJLA has an immediate opening for an Investigative Executive Producer to oversee and produce I-Team content for all platforms.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Oversee I-Team from staff scheduling to coordinating shoots, edits and maintaining a content calendar.
- Work with news mgt and I-Team staff to develop and refine content for broadcast and digital.
- Do research, conduct interviews and produce stories with/for Team.
- Work with investigative content creators to ensure a consistent, on-brand presence across social platforms.
- Perform initial review of scripts and pitches for accuracy, impact and potential legal issues.
- Work with line producers and broadcast EPs on best way to showcase investigative content.
- Work with Digital EP to identify and execute digital plan, supplementing linear material, tailored to specific platforms.
- Attend daily editorial meetings and look for opportunities to add investigative elements/breakouts to daily stories.
- Oversight of I-Team tipline, online tips and responses from Unit.
- Rotating weekend on-call shift.
The Successful Candidate:
- Minimum 10 years newsroom experience, 3-5 years investigative work in Top 40 market.
- Nose for stories that will engage audience
- Strong writing and editing skills
- Able to craft compelling, platform-specific digital and social content
- Positive, can-do attitude.
- Committed to objectivity, journalistic standards and ethics.
- Clear and thorough understanding of libel, defamation and related legal standards.
- Capable problem-solver, able to find answers and resolutions to conflicts in the field or on the Team.
- Understands the 24-7 nature of news, available to work nights, weekends and holidays as needed.
- Bachelors Degree in Journalism or related field.
