KUTV, the CBS affiliate in Salt Lake City, has an excellent full-time opportunity for a Late News Executive Producer to join our winning news team! The ideal candidate will have solid news judgment, be a compelling and accurate writer and be able to multitask and manage their time in order to put together an exciting and informative newscast. The ideal candidate will also have proven success as a coach and mentor, and embraces being aggressive on breaking news- both digital/social, and broadcast.
The candidate must have news producing experience at a commercial TV station. Experience as a newsroom manager is a plus. The candidate must also have strong leadership skills, excellent communication skills, and the ability to execute news strategies and goals in daily newscasts. As newsrooms evolve, it is critical that the right candidate embraces and adapts to new technology. Flexibility and on-the-spot problems solving abilities are a must. A positive attitude, proven leadership, and a coaching mentality are essential.
Job Responsibilities:
- Proactively managing breaking news coverage on all platforms; digital and broadcast
- On digital, leading the team to get information out quickly, including live streams
- On broadcast, being aggressive and willing to change up the rundown, even at the last moment.
- Determining the content and flow of newscasts
- Writing stories with relentless attention to detail
- Use of graphics creatively and effectively
- Producing content for multiple platforms, including TV, internet, mobile, etc.
- Working with management and reporters to generate stories
- Staying informed of current events
- Meeting daily deadlines in a high energy working environment
- Coaching and growing newer staff, including producers and reporters
- Actively participating in the weekend manager on-call rotation
- Other responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications:
- Experience as an Executive Producer or newsroom manager is preferred.
- Minimum of five years of experience in producing and boothing live newscasts
- BA in Journalism or a related field
- Knowledge in iNews and Avid NewsCutter is not required, but is a definite plus!
