The State of Connecticut, Department of Transportation (DOT), is accepting applications for paid Maintenance Seasonal Worker positions within the Bureau of Highway Operations. Positions will be based in District Offices and Maintenance Garages across the state!
POSITION HIGHLIGHTS:
SCHEDULE: 8 Hours/Day, 40 Hours/Week, First Shift, Monday - Friday
LOCATIONS: Various, see below District 1: Farmington, Middletown, East Windsor, Southington, Vernon
District 2: Canterbury, Putnam, Norwich, East Great Plains
District 3: Darien, Trumbull, North Haven, New Canaan, Waterbury, Orange
District 4: Beacon Falls, Winsted, North Canaan, Thomaston, Litchfield
THE ROLE:
As a Maintenance Seasonal Worker, you will have the opportunity to explore career paths and obtain valuable paid work experience in the maintenance field. A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required and must be maintained. Duties for Maintenance Summer Worker may include:
General Maintenance:
Outdoor work including landscaping activities, grounds upkeep, weed whacking, raking, planting, digging, assisting tree crews with wood/debris removal.
May receive training in and assist in performing semi-skilled maintenance and/or construction work including but not limited to rough carpentry, painting, masonry, minor electrical, and mechanical.
Other related duties as assigned.

Requirements
Please Note: Selected candidates must at least 16 or 18 years old, depending on the position.
Any experience and training that could reasonably be expected to provide the knowledge, skills and abilities listed below.
Knowledge ofprinciples, practices and procedures of assigned specialty;
operation of equipment, materials and activities of assigned specialty;
Knowledge to degree necessary for dealing with and understanding an individual’s behavior;
Skillsinterpersonal skills;
oral and written communication skills;
techniques of assigned specialty skills;
Ability toassist individuals in self-care habits, personal hygiene and proper social conduct where applicable;
understand and carry out written orders and oral instructions;
Adequate physical strength and stamina to perform duties;
Some positions may require supervisory and/or leadership abilities.
