Wheeler Brown Land Company oversees real estate development and participates in property management in the greater Baton Rouge area and is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Project Manager to join our team. In this role, you will oversee construction projects built for our own use and for our tenants, as well as managing the ongoing maintenance and compliance needs of our commercial properties. This is a hands-on, on-site position ideal for someone with a background in commercial construction and property management who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

- Manage multiple concurrent construction projects ranging from a few thousand dollars to $3 million, ensuring delivery on time and within budget.
- Verify that all construction work aligns with permitted plans, engineered drawings, and applicable codes and regulations.
- Direct, coordinate, and manage subcontractors throughout all phases of construction.
- Source and help select qualified subcontractors to perform defined scopes of work.
- Collaborate with architects and engineers prior to construction to ensure construction documents are complete and meet project requirements.
- Hold architects, engineers, and other consultants accountable to deliverable deadlines and permitting milestones.
- Assist in establishing project budgets based on plans and scope of work.
- Identify and recommend value engineering alternatives that reduce costs while maintaining quality and meeting project objectives.
- Maintain comprehensive job cost reports including percentage complete, percentage of costs paid, remaining budget, and over-budget line items.
- Maintain and track tenant repair requests, ensuring timely follow-up and resolution.
- Keep detailed records of HVAC and other critical equipment to identify recurring problem units and proactively address maintenance needs.
- Coordinate with subcontractors to schedule and complete property repairs efficiently and cost-effectively.
- Plan and budget for repairs with an emphasis on economic and practical solutions.
- Maintain a schedule of annual and mandatory compliance inspections — including sprinkler systems, fire alarm systems, fire extinguishers, and backflow preventers — and ensure all inspections are completed on time.
- Background in commercial construction; hands-on field experience is a plus.
- Familiarity with commercial property management and maintenance operations.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and engineered drawings.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
- Self-motivated and capable of working independently through a long list of tasks and goals without constant supervision.
- Effective communicator with subcontractors, vendors, architects, engineers, and internal stakeholders.
- Experience level is flexible — we value the right attitude and aptitude alongside relevant experience.
