We are looking for a highly capable Engineering Manager to join our team at the GSK UK R&D hub at Stevenage (Hertfordshire, UK).
The purpose of this role is to act as the technical authority for Environmental Engineering and to provide relevant engineering support to the R&D sites in Europe (Stevenage, Harlow and Addenbrookes (UK), Berlin and Heidelberg (Germany) Tres Cantos (Spain), and Siena (Italy) to provide governance and solutions across our Climate and Nature targets; Carbon, water, biodiversity, waste, and circularity. You will lead regional engineering activities utilizing matrix management skills to deliver strategic programmes in operational energy reduction alongside capital project execution, ensuring sustainability by design at all stages of the journey.
The role exists to deliver professional engineering expertise as a single point of leadership, providing sound technical direction through strategic intervention and progressive facilities Investment planning. We are looking for a capable engineering leader with a strong technical underpinning in environmental compliance and Utilities and Facilities Engineering Systems keen on making a difference.
Key Responsibilities (including).
To be the Single Point of Accountability for Sustainability across Europe for operational teams ensuring activities are resourced, planned and executed to deliver the overall goals and targets.
Manages the overall sustainability plan across Europe coordinating the various cross functional workstreams. Coaching and supporting operational service partner teams to identify/mitigate risks.
Manage the Communication and Stakeholder Management Plan to ensure compelling, consistent and timely communication of key messages.
Connect regularly with operational leads, holds regular governance meetings to ensure visibility of key milestones and risks is clearly understood, escalated and mitigated to ensure successful implementation of sustainability activities
Delivery focused, maximizing visibility across the region on reducing energy usage, water, and both hazardous and non-hazardous waste, while providing a forum for the Science groups to collaborate and support process efficiency.
Coach and develop engineers and technicians to grow capability across sites.
Manage environmental compliance across regional facilities ensuring audits and timely reporting of UKETS, MCPD, CCL, CHPQA, with awareness of statutory reporting and environmental permitting.
Location / Travel: Please note that this position is located at our UK R&D hub at Stevenage (Hertfordshire), but the successful applicant may need to travel as part of the delivery of their role to any of the sites across the network. We anticipate that travel will be a maximum of 10% of their time.
About You:
The successful applicant must have in-depth practical knowledge / experience of Environmental engineering, ideally gained from working in a highly regulated industry. Ideally, you will be working towards your engineering chartership. Demonstrable knowledge / expertise in Sustainable engineering / pharmaceutical industry would be highly advantageous.
You will be solution-orientated in your approach, with strong interpersonal skills suited to building working relationships across multiple stakeholder groups as you will be working in a complex interdisciplinary matrix environment. You will be resilient, resourceful and accountable as well as having a strong strategic and continuous improvement mindset.

Basic Qualifications:
Experience in energy management and/or engineering projects.
A degree in energy management/mechanical/electrical/building services engineering or related field of study.
Good demonstrable understanding across biodiversity, hazardous and non-hazardous waste streams.
Good knowledge of design and operation of Mechanical Systems, specifically related to HVAC, LEV, Chilled Water Systems and Steam Distribution.
Ability to establish strong working relationships in a matrix leadership capacity with key internal stakeholders and external service partners.
Ability to quickly analyze complex issues and identify and implement effective solutions.
Ability to analyze and prepare data for reporting purposes, track project performance, and develop actionable insights for leadership.
Preferred Qualifications:
Displays knowledge of the Research & Development process and understands GxP requirements
Experience of providing technical expertise across a wide geography with various in-country regulations
