Description
The purpose of this position is to support MnDOT's Asphalt Research Unit (ARU) in the Office of Materials & Road Research (OMRR). The position will involve supporting laboratory and field-testing efforts, analysis and interpretation of material and pavement evaluation data, reporting results and creating tools for automated processing and delivery of test results. The ARU provides project and network-level engineering support to the district offices and explores and provides innovative solutions to actual MnDOT and partners engineering needs. It covers topics to pavement material characterization, pavement design, evaluation and maintenance. Furthermore, the position will support the implementation and possible adoption of Traffic Speed Deflectometer (TSD) in planning of road repairs and evaluation of project and network-level pavement evaluation.
The position requires travel up to 25% of time to project sites within the state of Minnesota for data collection sessions, as the system is used to evaluate MnDOT-operated and managed roadways. These trips are mostly completed in a day, but occasionally they may take a couple of days and require staff to spend a night in a hotel.

Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must be current students in a secondary, post-secondary, or graduate school. Other qualifications include:
- Enrolled in an engineering, science, or mathematic/statistics program.
- Experience with Microsoft computer programs, especially Excel and Word.
- Ability to learn and apply statistical analysis tools to data sets.
- Ability to learn the use of basic tools, machinery, and testing equipment.
- Valid Class D Driver’s License.
- Basic programing skills.
