The Starbucks Law & Corporate Affairs (L&CA) department works across many disciplines including corporate securities, commercial transactions, intellectual property, data privacy, licensing and franchising, real estate, labor and employment, and litigation. We provide our legal interns with the opportunity to meet Starbucks attorneys across L&CA, work on assignments in their areas of interest, and develop practical legal skills.


Fellowship Overview

The Orrick-Starbucks 1L Fellowship Program is a unique opportunity for a highly qualified 1L student to gain substantive experience at both a leading law firm and in-house legal department.   

  • You will be a full member of Orrick’s 2023 Summer Associate Program and compensated as an Orrick Summer Associate. 
  • The Fellow will spend a portion of their summer embedded at Starbucks to focus on their business and legal issues.
  • While at Orrick, Orrick partner sponsors will oversee your work assignments, networking opportunities, and career coaching.
  • You may have the option to return to Orrick for your 2L summer. The option is contingent upon work performance during the 1L summer and continued academic excellence during your 2L year. 
  • The firm is looking for entrepreneurial, determined and engaged students with strong academic credentials and a demonstrated interest in the areas of finance, technology, and/or innovation. This includes past work experience and/or past academic exposure (course work and/or scholarship).  
  • Applicants must provide a resume, transcript (when available), and cover letter articulating your interest both in the Fellowship and the firm.

About Orrick
Orrick is committed to providing a comprehensive, thoughtful total compensation package to our attorneys and staff, wherever they work.

The amount of pay offered will be determined by a number of factors, including but not limited to qualifications, relevant experience, primary work location, market data, and internal equity. Other compensation may include an annual discretionary merit bonus, which would be determined by Firm and individual performance.  


We offer a full range of elective health benefits including medical, dental, vision and life insurances; robust mental well-being benefits; child, family, elder, and pet care benefits; short- and long-term disability benefits; a health savings account (w/applicable medical plan), flexible spending accounts, long-term care insurance, and a 401K program. Eligible employees will receive compensated time off through either a Paid Time Off or Flexible Time Off program (depending on position), generous Parental leave benefits, and paid holidays.

In compliance with wage transparency requirements in applicable locations, here are the targeted pay ranges based on a regular, full-time position in applicable Orrick office locations, including a National targeted pay range applicable to applicants who will work outside the locations described below:


Targeted Pay Range: California Major Markets* $215,000 - $215,000 | New York City $215,000 - $215,000 | National [including California Minor Markets**, Washington & Colorado] $215,000 - $215,000


*California Major Markets includes San Francisco, Silicon Valley, Los Angeles, Orange County


**California Minor Markets includes Sacramento
