This role is responsible for supporting the casualty products within the Foreign Casualty Actuarial Unit of North America Major Accounts.The position will contribute to portfolio management, account pricing, financial reporting, and development and upkeep of various actuarial tools.The person will be expected to understand and analyze complex insurance risk factors and articulate results to the various stakeholders, including but not limited to underwriters, product managers, offshore analysts and actuarial.

This role is being posted as an Actuarial Analyst II. Depending on the candidates qualifications, lower or higher job grades will be considered for the role.


Support for branch underwriters in pricing large risk management casualty programs; profitability studies for all major and middle market product lines; model building, enhancement, and maintenance work; and other ad hoc business unit needs. Potential work for this position includes:

  • Analyzing current and historical portfolio data to project profitable segments and rating elements

  • Working jointly with field underwriters on account specific analyses: loss rating, aggregate deductible evaluations, collateral calculations, rate change, rating model issues, etc.

  • Participating in discussions with underwriters, brokers, and outside actuaries in resolving differences in estimates between parties

  • Assisting with management reporting tasks, including reinsurance treaty support

  • Partnering with offshore team members, branch and home office underwriting, and credit management

  • Participating in branch underwriting audits

  • Maintaining/updating current rating models and other tools


  • Bachelors Degree or higher

  • 3 years or more of experience in actuarial disciplines

  • Credit for 4 or more CAS exams

  • Knowledge of and experience with pricing concepts a plus

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills

  • Effective written and oral communication skills

  • Work collaboratively with the business units in explaining results and providing timely analyses

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple conflicting priorities while meeting scheduled deliverables

  • Ability to work independently

  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (particularly Excel), Python and other programming languages

The position will be based in Philadelphia, PA and will report to the Assistant Actuary within the Foreign Casualty Actuarial Unit of North America Major Accounts.
