The Technical Designer position requires a committed individual with strong technical skills in garment construction and fit. Supports all new product developments and existing line extensions with the creation of new fit blocks, grading rules, tolerances, and technical specification packages. Evaluates product performance and makes recommendations for pattern improvements. Helps coordinate sample development activities between Engineering, Product Management, Mexico Sample Room, and vendor partners.


  • Support all New Product developments and existing line extensions. Creates first models from concept pictures into 2-dimensional patterns. Incorporates styling and fit changes determined by product managers and team during fit sessions or design process
  • Develop innovative solutions to new and existing product challenges. Communicate to manufacturer and pattern designer through technical specs and drawings.
  • Support all new product developments and existing line extensions with the creation of new fit blocks, grading rules, tolerances, and technical specification packages.
  • Create and/or revise product specifications with construction details for production. Ensures specification details and construction methods optimize profitability. Develop and Implement manufacturing best practices that will drive cost savings without compromising product fit, performance, and quality
  • Develop and manage the technical specifications standards for garments based on construction, quality, fit, measuring, and grading. Executes product specifications required in the technical pack and partner with sample room and development to execute including measurements, bill of materials, and prototype critiques. Issue graded specs to domestic vendors and overseas offices.
  • Track and facilitate prototyping, assessing garment samples for accurate fit and specification standards, solving for potential challenges accordingly to deliver proven and tested product in bulk production.
  • Lead technical fit sessions with cross-functional teams, recommending product solutions in real time. Review and recommend product technical specifications changes. Work closely with Engineering Services Manager to set fit session schedules to ensure buy-ready deliverables are met seasonally
  • Review Samples submission from vendors or Medline's sample room. Evaluate samples fit, grade rules, and tolerances; communicate audit results and correction request for final approval. Provides fit reports to team with illustrations/pictures/videos that can help visualize the functionality, manufacturability, performance, and quality of the product.
  • Oversee product development timelines, agreed by Product Management and Engineering /Manufacturing. Assess Product Development workflow to implement changes that will increase speed to market, reduce waste, improve quality, and drive cost savings.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Technical Design, Apparel Design, Textile Science, Product Development, Engineering, Pattern Making or related field.

Work Experience
  • At least 3 years of technical design experience in the apparel industry with knowledge of garment construction and fit.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
  • Experience using time management skills such as prioritizing/organizing and tracking details and meeting deadlines of multiple projects with varying completion dates.
  • Experience building and maintaining relationships within internal teams and vendor partners.
  • Experience with pattern design software (ex. Gerber)
  • Proficient with MS Office Programs, Adobe Photoshop, and Illustrator.
  • Knowledge of pattern design, grading, and manufacturing methods.
  • Ability to travel 10-20% including international travel.


  • Knowledge of Enginnering Costing Software ETC, GSD
  • Experience working with PLM systems.
  • Bilingual English-Spanish.
