As the EHS Manager , you will be responsible for managing a comprehensive Environment, Health and Safety program for the PPG Greensboro, NC and Mebane, MC facilities. This role is based at the Greensboro Powder Coatings facility and supports the Mebane Coatings Services (CSV) facility. Regular travel between sites is required to support both facilities.

You provide leadership, direction and training to ensure a safe and healthful workplace for our associates while ensuring compliance with applicable environment, health, and safety regulations and requirements to minimize current and future risk and liabilities.
Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with Federal, State, Local and PPG requirements and policies.
  • Drive injury prevention, spill elimination and sustainability in the areas of waste elimination, energy conservation and water consumption; provide leadership and direction for EHS training; oversight and completion of the industrial hygiene program.
  • Provide incident and injury investigation, incident reporting management and case strategic direction and oversight for the facility; includes workers' compensation management.
  • Evaluate the EHS impacts of capital projects and assure EHS risk assessments are completed.
  • Provide oversight, audit readiness and mentorship for compliance audits and corrective action management.
  • Conceives, develops, and leads solutions to sophisticated situations, using legally or expertly accepted techniques, procedures, or methods.
  • Ensure compliance with air and water permits and oversight of the Waste Management Program (Hazardous, Non-Hazardous, Universal).
  • Maintain site security, emergency response, site security, fire prevention and contingency plans.
  • Assist development of leading indicators that drive continuous improvement in sustainability metrics (energy, water, waste), spill incidents, injuries and the EHS Management System.
  • Actively interact with employees and leadership to promote the PPG EHS culture.
  • Drive key safety initiatives including Job Safety Analysis, site safety risk assessments, risk mitigation, and Management of Change.

  • A Bachelor's degree in Safety, Environmental, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering or related Science field preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in the EHS field; manufacturing or chemical setting preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of safety and environmental regulations and consensus standards (OSHA, EPA, DOT, NIOSH, ANSI, NFPA, Workers' Compensation), inspection procedures, audits, hazard reviews, incident prevention, incident investigation techniques, and safety and environmental education and training.
  • Must possess strong problem solving skills and be able to manage programs.
  • Strong communication, consulting, influencing, mentor, and leadership skills; effective advisor to management and employees across a variety of issues.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw conclusions.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple projects and meet necessary deadlines.
  • Proficiency in the use of computers with knowledge of MS office products including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Expert in change management and building a safety culture through influence and engagement.
  • Must be a persistent self-starter who can work effectively and lead others with minimal oversight.
  • Must be able to work effectively with all levels the organization and with external individuals.
  • Basic understanding of key business metrics, key drivers, business vision, and manufacturing processes/challenges as applicable.
