This Assistant Vice President & Actuary position is responsible for supporting the Casualty pricing unit of Commercial/Small Commercial (CI/SCI) Actuarial. The role is based in our Whitehouse, NJ office and reports to the Lead Actuary for Commercial/Small Commercial Casualty.

Duties and Responsibilities related to these product lines:

  • Work closely with CI/SCI management to address actuarial pricing needs for Casualty lines including Monoline GL, Package GL, Multinational and multi-line program business

  • Complete annual pricing studies, as well as ad-hoc pricing study requests

  • Conduct annual casualty loss trend analysis

  • Work with CI/SCI management to develop/revise rating algorithms, including providing actuarial rate filing support for state regulators

  • Complete monthly, quarterly and annual reporting requirements for price monitoring and actual versus expected

  • Support the purchase and placement of reinsurance

  • Work with the predictive analytics team to support CI/SCI underwriting initiatives

  • Manage one direct report


  • BS Degree or higher in Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Statistics, Finance or a related field

  • ACAS; FCAS preferred

  • 7+ years of relevant actuarial pricing or reserving experience

  • Proficiency in Excel, familiarity with a programming or querying language, such as SAS / SQL / R / FOCUS / Python

  • Excellent analytical and communication skills, the ability to provide clear and concise verbal and written communications to non-actuarial business leaders; and

  • Strong organizational and collaboration abilities
