Job Description Summary:

The Associate Manager, Biology is responsible for assisting operating, managing, improving, and maintaining dedicated high-throughput screening and compound management robotic platforms to ensure timely execution of high-quality, microtiter-plate based biochemical and cell-based HTS screens.
We are looking for a highly motivated manager to build and support a strategy to drive integrated automation and screening technologies in a manner that scales across an expanding set of microbial and mammalian synthetic biology applications.
The incumbent works cross-functionally with internal departments and external resources on Drug Discovery Technology related issues.
The Associate Manager, Biology adherence to relevant regulatory requirements and company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as appropriate.

Job Description:

Primary duties/responsibilities:

  • Development of a strategy to support the growth of the screening platforms and team.

  • Manage compound acquisition and distribution operations and our automated platformsfor executing high-throughput screens in 96, 384, and 1536 standard well plate formats.

  • Collaborate with HTS assay developers to develop and execute screens on robotic platforms.

  • Optimize quality control, calibration and screening workflows to increase throughput and efficiencies while maintaining high-quality results.

  • Work with our Automation team to troubleshoot instruments, improve screening systems, and evaluate new technologies.

  • Performs other tasks and assignments as needed and specified by management.


  • Strong understanding of liquid handling and automation in a HTS or compound management environment

  • Experience operating/troubleshooting laboratory automation.

* Minimum level of education and years of relevant work experience.

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in a scientific discipline preferably Biology, Chemistry, Bioengineering, or related field with atleast 5+ years of experience or equivalent years of education and experience.

* Special knowledge or skills needed and/or licenses or certificates required.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, as required, in a fast-paced, matrixed, team environment consisting of internal and external team members.

  • Analytical thinker with excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.

  • Excellent planning, organization and time management skills including the ability to support and prioritize multiple projects.

*Special knowledge or skills and/or licenses or certificates preferred.

  • Familiarity with both in-vitro and cell-based assays.

  • Familiarity with at least one relevant programming language.

* Travel requirements

Travel between the PTC NJ sites in Bridgewater and South Plainfield

*Physical requirements (only note if the job requires physical capacity beyond general office work)
