Business Product Owner

The Business Product Owner is responsible for delivery of a business product. The role impacts and helps to drive the value of strategic initiatives. The Business Product Owner is accountable/responsible for technology initiatives associated to the product, cross-functional leadership and influence, and impact to operational downstream metrics (quality / productivity / efficiency) attached to the specific product they manage.


Product / Business Development lifecycle

  • Partner with designated business owner to deliver on the multi-year technology roadmap which supports business needs and strategies, and ensure technology initiatives are delivering to budgetary goals
  • Influence prioritization of technology deliverables to maximize value delivered across the product, helping to balance incremental and transformational initiatives
  • Ensure that goals/objectives are achieved related to overall assigned product in-year
  • Work with functional/business peers, operational peers, and technology peers to deliver results, mitigate issues and drive improvements
  • On-time delivery of planned capabilities

Capability Business Performance Metrics

  • Participate in the definition of business KPI's related to technology capabilities delivered
  • Leverage data to identify new areas of opportunity
  • Partner with technology and analytics teams to develop new measurement capabilities for KPI's not currently measured


  • Bachelor's degree in relevant discipline or equivalent experience
  • 2-5 years of relevant experience or Bachelor's degree with 1-2 years relevant experience
  • PC skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Agile Product Owner Certification a plus
  • Prior knowledge or experience in business planning, financial planning or other like functions
  • Knowledge of customer service/patient interaction experience and/or pharmacy related processes
  • Strong understanding and ability to write business requirements
  • Prior knowledge of project management or program management execution
  • Technical understanding to determine value, prioritization and/or critical problem solving skills
  • Knowledge of the PBM or healthcare industry preferred
  • Knowledge of SDLC/Agile process preferred
  • Thorough understanding of business operations and processes required
  • Understanding of financial models and forecasting
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and presentation skills.
  • Problem-solving skills with the ability to work cross functionally to resolve issues and generate results among potentially conflicting constituencies
  • High level of confidence, integrity, enthusiasm, executive presence and personal attributes that fit a fast paced, energetic and proactive organization
  • Ability to influence other at Director, Sr. Director levels
  • Ability to build strong relationship with peers across the organization
  • Ability to effectively work within a complex, matrix environment
