The mission of Methodist Healthcare Ministries of South Texas, Inc. (MHM) is " Serving Humanity to Honor God " by improving the physical, mental and spiritual health of those least served in the Rio Texas Conference area of The United Methodist Church.

Summary:

In coordination with the Capacity Building Manager and Sr. Capacity Building Specialist, provides capacity building services to MHM's funded partners and other community partners to strengthen organizations' sustainability, augment MHM's investments, and support MHM's strategic initiatives. Supports one or more capacity building cohorts with services ranging from coaching, facilitation, prospect research, and strategic planning to identifying specialized technical assistance in operational area(s) such as business planning, development, marketing, human resources, finance, information technology, etc. Provides support for virtual and in-person capacity building convenings. Connects partners to resources, including trainings, funding lists, consultants, etc. Maintains capacity building presence on MHM's website and social media platforms. Supports efforts to cultivate and maintain positive funder and collaborative relationships for capacity building efforts.

Essential Duties :

    • Provides capacity building services to MHM's funded partners and other community partners to strengthen organizations' sustainability, augment MHM's investments, and support MHM's strategic initiatives
    • Coaches and connects partners to resources on a range of topics needed for organizational sustainability, including, but not limited to, business planning, development, marketing, human resources, finance, and information technology
    • Connects partners to resources, including trainings, funding lists, consultants, etc.
    • Assists with outreach to consultants for connection to our capacity building cohorts and/or individual organization(s)
    • Assists with development of a consultant repository
    • In coordination with MHM's Communications Department, maintains capacity building presence on MHM's website and social media platforms, offering funding opportunities, features, tips, and other resources for organizational strengthening
    • Assists with contract procurement and contract monitoring, i.e., capacity building consultants and consultant services such as Catchafire and Resilia
    • Engages in interdepartmental efforts, including, but not limited to, serving on internal committees, task forces, and work groups.
    • Facilitates group meetings for collaborative work and/or technical assistance training for community partners and coalitions, using Liberating Structures, Technology of Participation (ToP) or similar facilitation model.
    • Develops customized presentations, tools (such as forms and templates) for external stakeholders (partners, funders, collaboratives, etc.)
  • Assists with the development of capacity building collateral materials.
    • Stays abreast of industry /best practices with a specific focus on the non-profit sector
    • Conducts prospect research, including identifying grant opportunities from foundations, government, and corporate entities
    • Assists with researching, writing, and submitting grant proposals
  • Assists in the preparation of reports about capacity building efforts, including KPIs and goal alignment progress
  • Supports efforts to cultivate and maintain positive funder and collaborative relationships for capacity building efforts
  • Represents MHM at various funder groups and community meetings
  • Assists with work to grow and develop co-investing opportunities such as collaborative foundation efforts throughout MHM's service region
  • Assists with capacity building strategic plans for the department
  • Assists with procedural guidance for department tasks
  • Performs other duties as assigned and deemed necessary

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

Bachelor's Degree and at least three years' successful capacity building or organizational development experience, preferably with non-profit, community-based organizations. General knowledge of capacity building practices.

Language . Bilingual in Spanish preferred

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to synthesize principles and trends from a broad array of information.

Certificates and Licenses:

Facilitation training (such as Liberating Structures, ToP (Technology of Participation), or Appreciative Inquiry) preferred.

Computer Skills:

Demonstrate working knowledge of the Internet, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word and Excel applications. Experience with Foundation Directory Online preferred.

Travel:

Ability to travel up to 10% of the time to community partner sites, MHM clinic and program sites, convenings, and conferences.

Annual rate for this position begins at $52,341. Actual starting rate will be commensurate with experience.
