Howmet Engine Systems is currently seeking an experience Procurement professional to join our team. In this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for specific commodities within the Operating Materials and Dies commodities as part of the Howmet Engine Systems Category Management Team. The Operating Materials spend is a large and complex category of spend which includes refractories, chemicals, coatings wax patterns, industrial gases, strategic proprietary materials, cores and other materials used within the casting process. The Operating Materials and Dies & Fabricated Metals Categories span across all Howmet Engine System locations and includes hundreds of suppliers globally. This category requires high level strategic support and active supplier performance management including but not limited to - ensuring capacity is available, product gets shipped on time, product meets or exceeds quality requirements for Howmet Engine Systems to meet its annual EBITDA and Cash targets. Supplier quality, pricing, capacity and delivery schedules are paramount to the success in managing this commodity.

Category Management is responsible for the Operating Materials and Dies & Fabricated Metals Categories of spend within Howmet Engines Business Unit globally which includes but is not limited to refractories, chemicals, coatings, wax patterns, industrial gases, strategic proprietary materials, cores, dies, and fabricated metals and the management of critical supplier relationships in conjunction with the Howmet Engines Business Unit Global Sourcing Manager. The overall goal is to achieve the best total cost position within the Operating Materials and Dies and Fabricated Metals categories. This includes, but is not limited to, also achieving the lowest sourcing risk, best supplier performance ensuring the highest efficiency and effectiveness to the business.

The successful candidate will serve as the point of contact for supplier issues within the assigned categories including issues related to service, commercial terms and contract disputes. He/she will also have responsibility to execute global best-in-class procurement processes using state-of-the-art procurement IT software support, ensuring the Procurement organization is utilizing the maximum potential within global and local markets (Cost Savings, Innovation, Quality, Logistics).

Key responsibilities of the Category Manager include:

  • Develop and execute commercial plans on a year over year basis in accordance with Business Unit objectives including but not limited to the utilization of high yield methods and low-cost country sourcing.
  • Work with internal contacts as well as process ownership teams to ensure that the materials meet or exceed expectations and are priced competitively while ensuring product availability and capacity are actively managed.
  • Where applicable, establish master agreements and maintain within the MSIS contract management system. These master agreements include the creation and negotiation of long-term agreements; the assessment and acting upon spend leveraging opportunities; partnering with business stakeholders to define best total cost of ownership; secure required capacity and lead time guarantees from engaged suppliers
  • Executes contract negotiations/Terms and Conditions with suppliers classified in category
  • Manage key supplier performance such as on-time delivery, quality and claims
  • Accountable for Performance areas: Cost Savings (SRT), Supplier performance, challenging of material & service specifications (demand management)
  • Locate and develop new supplier sources to avoid monopolistic sourcing options
  • Drive savings opportunities related to technical process improvements
  • Act as a project manager for all sourcing opportunities, communicate with a wide range of stakeholders in finance, operations, engineering, business unit leadership ; influence Procurement Operations to ensure successful execution of strategies
  • Direct responsibility for spend within Operating Materials and Dies and Fabricated Metals as directed by the Global Sourcing Manager
  • Achieves Procurement targets worldwide for assigned categories (cost, innovation, quality)
  • Develops and executes Procurement strategies such as Low-Cost Country Sourcing strategies
  • Maintains business relationships with representatives of strategic suppliers for categories
  • Collaborates with Procurement Engineering, Process Ownership, Research Center, and other internal business resources using forums such as workshops to achieve category cost savings targets
  • Aligns with internal business contacts within the organization to ensure capacity and cost is secured to meet customer long-term agreements
  • Leads, co-leads, or supports commercial sourcing activity across all categories as required to meet company objectives (e.g. e-Auction, RfX processes)
  • Leads, co-leads, or supports non-commercial events as required to meet objectives, including, but not limited to Kaizen workshops, Working Capital/Inventory Workshops
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in procurement, sales, customer service or engineering
  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.

  • MBA preferred
  • Previous project management experience
  • Previous experience with Dies and Fabricated Metals, blueprints, materials management
