Job Summary: The Chief of Staff to the CIO serves as a trusted advisor, partner, and builds leverage for the CIO and executive team. While the role has clearly defined areas of responsibility, it is also fluid and the Chief of Staff will need to be able to dive into any area of the business, understand business needs, and facilitate executive decisions based on changing priorities. The Chief of Staff should not only be able to build the trust vital to manage critical and sensitive matters but also to be able to speak up, step up and offer alternative viewpoints with credibility. The Chief of Staff should be #inserviceto the entire organization and bring thoughtfulness, creativity, humility, and levity to all work efforts. An effective candidate will have a strong ability to build deep partnerships, analyze multifaceted issues, synthesize, and strategically communicate, and lead through influence.

The position of IT Chief of Staff will be responsible for enabling the successful operations of the global IT leadership team reporting to the CIO. Primary responsibilities will include developing the strategy, programs, and structure required for the operations of the IT leadership team. This leader will provide direct support to the CIO in areas of IT strategy, communications, team development, organizational tools, and program support for the leadership team to ensure a successful and flawless operation of the IT function.

As a critical member of the CIO team, the ideal candidate has sophisticated written communication and presentation development skills. Will handle sophisticated situations and multiple responsibilities simultaneously and will be well versed in communications and organizational change. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate a deep understanding of Equinix business processes and operating models as well as functional domains at the company and how they work together.

Responsibilities

Meeting Management & Facilitation

  • Lead meetings (design, cadence, agenda prioritization, actions and follow-up) including Bi-Weekly CIO Staff Meetings, Quarterly CIO Staff Planning Meetings, Quarterly All Hands, Annual Senior Leadership Off-Sites, Monthly Senior Leadership Calls, QBRs and MORs

  • Drive agenda preparation and prioritization with CIO and key partners; ensure clear action items and accountability after all meetings; follow-up with action owners accordingly

  • Drive planning and content for Annual Senior Leadership Offsite in partnership with Global Events Team

People

  • Partner with HR to proactively address organizational issues, and support change management and talent strategy

  • Own the IT employee recognition program and ensure that our workforce is motivated and engaged.

  • Drive our Diversity and Belonging efforts as an IT organization and ensure all employees feel like they belong at Equinix.

  • Partner with the Equinix Impact team to promote and increase awareness of the Equinix Impact initiatives across the IT organization

  • Serve as the point-person for the IT Fun Committee to drive employee satisfaction.

  • Keep a pulse on our business, maintain a strong feedback loop on organizational needs, and update the CIO and HR as needed

Communications

  • Partner with the IT Communications team to develop and operate CIO communications strategy, and to drive consistent communication across the Global IT team to ensure clarity, alignment, accountability, and delivery

  • Help connects the dots across the company, ensuring communication flow between multiple organizations and operating mechanisms

  • Build content for CIO (in partnership with Communications teams, as needed) to present at internal and external events.

  • Serve as liaison to other Chiefs of Staff to ensure alignment and transparency across key partners and groups act as teamwork entry point for CIO Staff.

CIO Time Management

  • Focus on increasing efficiency and effectiveness of CIO time in collaboration with the Senior Executive Assistant to the CIO

  • Identify areas where the CIO should direct their focus and say no on their behalf for time-consuming requests that may not drive the highest value

  • Anticipate for the CIO and provide foresight and practical value for upcoming events and meetings to ensure their time is well spent

Program Management of Goals and Objectives:

  • Support the development and management of IT goals, OKRs and the instrumentation and reporting to track progress in collaboration with CIO and IT Strategy, Planning & Operations leadership. Handle reporting and review cadence and supervise corrective actions.

  • Supervise and evaluate activity and progress on key CIO selected projects to resolve need for changing priorities and/or resource allocations

  • Coordinate and support the development of processes and content to integrate CIO activities with the Equinix operating mechanisms such as Executive Staff meetings, Strategy meetings and leadership forums to create effective communication and alignment.

  • Lead and drive specific initiatives as determined by CIO.

  • Work with IT Strategy, Planning & Operations to develop programs vital for internal awareness and alignment with partners regarding IT activities, achievements and ongoing priorities.

General Duties

  • Dive into any area of the business, understand business needs, and facilitate executive decisions based on changing priorities

  • Be a trusted partner and sounding board to the CIO and IT Executive Team on decisions

  • Ask the hard questions to ensure that projects and investments have true impact to Equinix, including ongoing discussions on whether the impact/return on investment is enough

  • Operate with a high level of integrity and discretion including matters of people, legal proceedings, acquisitions, and financial forecasts

Qualifications

  • 15+ years experience in roles with similar responsibilities above with demonstrated growing levels of responsibility. Highly prefer a combination of experience in technical functions with management or strategy consulting.

  • Bachelors degree required or 20 + years experience in lieu of a bachelor; Masters degree preferred

  • Significant experience and understanding of IT business operations and programs.

  • Experience leading sophisticated projects across an enterprise-wide, highly dynamic and fluid environment.

  • Top-notch presentation development and written and verbal communications skills with great attention to detail.

  • Strategic and flexible approach to business problem solving. Ability to process information to formulate an effective strategy and programs.

  • Tight-knit teamwork skills with the ability to form deep and positive relationships, across organizations, to achieve common goals.

  • Effective communication and influence style that results in positive outcomes in projects and meetings.

  • Partner with and present to C-level executives.

  • Ability to coordinate basic financial management, modeling, budget management.

  • High energy, passion, discipline, proactive mentality. Reputation for being hard-working and a total phenomenal teammate.
