Clinical & Customer Analytics Senior Manager

In this role, you will have the opportunity to lead the Clinical & Customer Analytics team supporting Cigna's Individual and Family Plans (IFP) business - a fast-growing and dynamic business segment. You will translate IFP's strategic initiatives into a roadmap guiding new analytics solutions to help enable them; in particular, you will lead the planning and creation of tools and capabilities that use data to help make better business decisions and deliver more personalized customer and clinical insights. You will lead a team of analysts and data scientists, as well as engage in a collaborative, cross-functional group spanning a variety of functional areas (e.g. clinical operations, product, population health, distribution, finance, and actuarial). The right leader will possess a strong degree of creativity, innovation, business and financial acumen, and advanced analytical and technical competencies . They will also demonstrate a talent for translating between technical and non-technical audiences, as well as a desire to champion a data-driven culture with our business partners.


  • Lead the strategy and execution of IFP's Customer Analytics function
  • Develop innovative ways for data and analytics to inform strategic decisions
  • Identify and execute on opportunities to build new data products (e.g. predictive models, dashboards, studies, etc.) that yield deeper insights into customer traits, behaviors, and earnings
  • Oversee the development of more advanced Customer Lifetime Value tools and techniques to influence business decision-making using a lifetime profitability metric
  • Manage a wide variety of ad hoc analyses, while prioritizing multiple stakeholder needs
  • Lead the strategy and execution of IFP's Clinical Analytics function
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of a comprehensive suite of analytics & reporting tools and capabilities
  • Support the development, reporting and evaluation of clinical programs including matched case-control studies and/or other statistical analyses for determining their effectiveness
  • Partner with Population Health team to design and evaluate strategic initiatives across the segment to reduce health care disparities, address social determinants of health and improve clinical engagement and outcomes
  • Influence business decision-making across a variety of functional areas, championing the use of customer analytics to inform better outcomes
  • Promote more sophisticated tools enabling "de-averaging" customers into smaller cohorts with unique characteristics, experience, and needs
  • Recommend strategic courses of action to various stakeholders based on the team's analytics outputs
  • Communicate the results of modeling and analyses to a broad range of stakeholders, and promote standards for clear communication of complex analyses through the team


  • 5+ years of work experience, including experience with health care data and statistical analysis
  • Strong business and financial acumen, including knowledge of health insurance financial drivers
  • Strong working knowledge of analytical techniques for predictive modeling and data mining
  • Previous experience with evaluation methodologies such as matched case control or randomized trials
  • Strong customer focus, communication, and management of business partner expectations
  • Ability to think creatively and put structure around complex problems to address business needs
  • Ability to clearly present findings to a diverse group of teams with varying levels of technical expertise
  • Prior customer-level analytics and/or B2C business experience in health care, particularly with Affordable Care Act plans preferred
  • Familiarity with medical and pharmacy claims, ICD10, DRG, APC, HCPCS, CPT considered a plus

This position is not eligible to be performed in Colorado.
