In this exciting role as a Clinical PMO Program Manageryou will have primary responsibility to support the department's business process improvement initiatives and resource management needs in order to enable crisp execution of global cross-functional clinical studies and projects. This requires partnering with all team members to harmonize process, standardize tools and enhance analysis and reporting for both study and operations management.

This posting is for 2 open positions within the Clinical Portfolio Management Office (PMO) supporting the Structural Heart & Aortic Global Clinical Research Department: 1) Medical Evidence Operations Program Manager and 2) Operational Excellence Program Manager.

The Structural Heart and Aortic integrated operating unit offers minimally invasive approaches to restore proper structure and function of the heart and the aorta. We focus on the transcatheter replacement or repair of the four heart valves-aortic, pulmonic, mitral, tricuspid-and the placement of stent grafts to treat aneurysms and dissections of the body's largest artery, the aorta.

This role can be remote-based. Preferred locations: Santa Rosa, CA; Mounds View, MN

Ability to travel up to 25% (primarily domestic and may have some international travel).

A Day in the Life

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Leads or leverages cross functional teams to evaluate, develop and manage projects for key business processes.
  • Oversees and manages the operational aspects of ongoing projects and serves as liaison between project management and planning, project team and line management.
  • Reviews status of project and budgets; manages schedules and prepares status reports.
  • Monitors projects from initiation through delivery.
  • Assesses project issues and develops resolutions to meet productivity, quality, and client-satisfaction, goals and objectives.
  • Develops mechanisms for monitoring project progress and for intervention and problem solving with project managers, line managers and clients.

Additional responsibilities include:
  • Operations support for Structural Heart & Aortic Clinical Medical Evidence (Biostatistics, Publications, External Research & Collaborative Research, Scientific Communications, Medical Advisors, Medical Science and Medical Advisors), Medical Writing, and Screening & Safety teams.
  • Oversee the implementation of business process improvements including design, project plans, training, and sustainability metrics.
  • Business process owner responsible for implementing standardized tools, visualization dashboards, reports, and executive review documents to assist in decision making, measure portfolio performance and drive business results.
  • Provide proactive analysis and strategic recommendations to drive continuous improvement.
  • Perform regular analysis and documentation to identify risk and ensure complete and accurate reporting of portfolio health.
  • Manage cross-functional projects and initiatives that involve close collaboration with functional leads, clinical PMO(s), clinical research teams, external vendors, IT, Finance, and/or Medical Evidence and Medical Science teams.
  • Track issues, seek out root cause and oversee corrective action plans; liaise with internal business partners, external vendors, and technology teams to resolve system related issues.
  • Lead day-to-day management of clinical operational excellence portfolio.
  • Execution of operational excellence strategy.
  • Perform regular analysis to ensure complete and accurate reporting of portfolio health.

Must Have (Minimum Requirements):

To be considered for this role, the minimum requirements must be evident on your resume.

  • Bachelor's degree required with a minimum of 5 years of program/project management experience within the healthcare industry or advanced degree with a minimum of 3 years of program/project management experience within the healthcare industry.

Nice to Have (Preferred Qualifications):
  • Experience in a Program or Project Manager role within Clinical Research in the medical device industry and/or Operational Excellence role responsible for resource management, demand/capacity planning, financial proformas in the healthcare industry
  • Experience implementing or executing Operational Excellence strategy, new process, tools and program and/or portfolio dashboards
  • Experience as a team lead overseeing multiple projects and deliverables
  • PMP, PgPM, PfPM, Lean Six Sigma certifications
  • Internal Medtronic employees with reporting, program and/or portfolio management/skills and experience in Clinical Research highly preferred
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft tool suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio, SharePoint, PowerApps, PowerBI, Project, Teams)
  • Siebel CTMS (Clinical Trial Management System), Spotfire, Tableau or similar data visualization tools, Smartsheet, or other PPM tools
  • Advanced user of Medtronic's Clinical Development Analytics (CDA) experience or similar clinical database
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft tool suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio, SharePoint, PowerBI, Project, Teams)
