The Histochemistry and Tissue Processing Core Laboratory is currently seeking a full-time Histologist to join our highly motivated team. Candidate must be able to perform routine and advanced histologic procedures according to our established protocols, while maintaining specimen integrity and identity throughout the preparation process. Appropriate attention to quality control and regulatory guidelines is required.

Job Description:

  • Able to perform CLIA "High Complexity" muscle enzyme histochemistry staining
  • Have knowledge or experience of CLIA or CAP accreditation requirements, compliance methods, and inspection preparedness
  • Prepare microscopic slides on human/animal tissue for research/diagnostic purposes, including processing, embedding, microtomy, cryosectioning and mounting to include both paraffin processed and frozen tissue
  • Maintain quality control and quality assurance procedures while performing routine and special stains
  • Advanced technical expertise in developing and implementing manual or automated immunohistochemistry assays
  • Data recording and equipment maintenance
  • Slide organization, preparing and maintaining all necessary reagents, including stains, alcohols, and paraffins according to proper specifications
  • Handling and disposition of hazardous materials
  • Perform specimen accessioning to include all manual and computerized data entry (confident/proficient with Word, Excel, SharePoint)
  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Handle workflow from multiple investigators
  • Learn advanced histological techniques
  • Approach problems/decisions analytically and maintain protocols/records
  • Be proactive, work independently
  • Be flexible with workload and job duties to support team objectives
  • Adhere to the established hospital/departmental protocols and service standards
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to be successful in a team environment

  • HT(ASCP) or HTL (ASCP) certification required
  • A minimum of (3-5) years' experience working in an anatomic or research pathology laboratory
  • Bachelor's degree preferred; associate's degree permissible if obtained from an accredited Histology program
