As a CMO/GMA Program Lead working on the Chief Medical Office team, you will partner closely with the Medical Franchise Head (MFH), Global Medical Unit Head (GMUH) and CMO / GMA team members as well as other global, regional and local Medical Affairs, Commercial and R&D functions, as required, to ensure that the medical and functional strategy is integrated into an operational plan. A typical day will include:

POSITION OBJECTIVES:

  • Provides project management and leadership skills to the Medical Strategy Team (MST), Medical Franchise Leadership Team (MFLT) and/or certain other functions in the CMO or GMA, in the successful delivery of multiple and/or complex projects within a single or across therapeutic areas for Global Medical Affairs
  • Partner closely with the Medical Franchise Head (MFH), Global Medical Unit Head (GMUH) and CMO / GMA team members as well as other global, regional and local Medical Affairs, Commercial and R&D functions, as required, to ensure that the medical and functional strategy is integrated into an operational plan
  • Serve as a partner to CMO and GMA functional team members to determine project priorities, identify resource needs; lead key strategic planning activities; report program progress; oversee program budget; and execute communication and change management plans

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Leads the program and project planning efforts of the MFLT, in defining and implementing the therapeutic strategy as well as maintaining oversight at the MST for the operational plans, execution strategies & critical path for the product
  • Facilitate the MFLT, MST and/or other group meetings and ensure agendas are appropriate to enable key discussions and decisions within the team.
  • Manage the planning, operational and reporting logistics of the MFLT, MST and/or other teams (including but not limited to: meeting schedule management, meeting facilitation, development of meeting materials with contributors, capture and follow up of action items and deliverables, distribution of minutes, and maintenance of relevant SharePoint site (or equivalent))
  • Drives team deliverables for project completion for assigned projects across all GMA functions and regions
  • Responsible for building quality relationships with key stakeholders, in both R&D and Commercial, that result in valued and trusted partnerships and program support.
  • Works closely with teams, to balance operational execution with GMA strategy
  • Provides direction and mentors junior colleagues, including project managers, driving for results; helps them break down problems into manageable pieces; looks for opportunities for junior PM to demonstrate their abilities to larger audiences; uses effective coaching techniques to refocus energy and address frustrations; leads by example (e.g. maintains composure under pressure)

EDUCATION, BEHAVIORAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:

  • Bachelors Degree science or business-related field
  • 6 - 8 years of pharmaceutical industry experience.
  • Previous drug development experience is preferred (e.g. Clinical Research, CMC, BDM or other development related function)
  • Minimum of 5 years people management experience and/or proven leadership experience in managing a global, matrix team
  • Demonstrated previous experience as a project manager leading complex pharmaceutical project deliverables in a multi-disciplinary, global environment
  • Knowledge of regulatory and compliance guidelines governing medical affairs
  • Applied knowledge of performance measurement (e.g. metrics, dashboards)
  • Experience building effective networks with internal stakeholders to achieve project goals
  • Experience leading cross-functional meetings or workshops to drive organizational goals
  • Ability to predict issues, anticipate risks and solve problems
  • Ability to drive decision-making within a cross-functional and cross-cultural, global team structure
  • Ability to work in a highly complex, multi-cultural, often stressful environment
  • Demonstrated ability to clearly and concisely communicate/prepare presentations for management
  • Effective negotiation and positive influencing abilities
  • Experience in identifying and driving opportunities for process improvement with significant organizational impact and takes on, as needed, non-project responsibilities, which can include project management processes and systems
  • Management of multiple tasks of varied complexity to enable successful delivery of multiple and/or complex projects within a single or across therapeutic areas for Global Medical Affairs

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Project Management Professional certification preferred

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

  • May travel to the EU and Japan offices and other meeting locations internationally. Approximately 25% travel is required.
