Communications Systems Lead

The Communications Lead is responsible for the systems engineering effort to define and deliver a complex space and terrestrial communications architecture. The Communications Lead manages the integration and engineering to ensure all segments and components are completely interoperable for mission data tasking and collection. The Communications Lead engages throughout the entire lifecycle from design to operations and disposal, including Operational Test and Evaluation (OT &E) activities to determine operational effectiveness, suitability, interoperability, and performance of the direct uplink/downlink including external systems. Specific responsibilities include:
- Lead the engineering design and analysis assessments for communications user equipment and transport segments.
- Develop and monitor technical performance measures for communications at the system and segment levels.
- Lead the engineering and analysis efforts to design and optimize network traffic/performance models.
- Develop plans and integrate communication segments across a variety of terrestrial and Space based networks.
- Lead communications engineering team and solution definition through various system readiness events and independent review teams.
- Lead ground and enterprise teams coordinating, establishing, and integrating mission capabilities, and architecture products, assessing system and segment schedule and risks, supporting test and verification strategy and system integration.
- Lead the creation of systems communications segment specification and ICDs.
- Serve as the primary representative with all developers and customers with daily interaction, facilitate risk and action closure, provide technical consultation, and support recommendation briefings.
- Oversee assessments including modulation techniques, antennae characteristics, software defined radio methodology, link closure modeling, digital signal processing, and GNU standards.
- Guide system anomaly trouble shooting and interface with developers to ensure systems will satisfy requirements.
The Communications Lead designs, develops, evaluates, and modifies end-to-end systems and systems-oriented products through their entire life cycle. Generates quantifiable requirements based on customer description, system planning and design, and acquisition logistics. Ensures requirements comply with client requirements and government standards through formal verification methods.


- Requires 16+ years with BS/BA or 14+ years with MS/MA or 10+ years with Ph.D.

- 10+ years experience working in communications engineering and development industry.
- experience with RF communications systems engineering and/or integration. Optical systems design knowledge desired.
- experience with RF antenna design and patterning, link closure, analog and digital signal conversion, interference remediation, communications security and protection.
