Job Purpose

The Data Center Technicians primary responsibility is the 24/7 monitoring and maintenance of the SageNet core Network Operations. The technicians must recognize service impacting conditions, initiate outage tickets, and notify key SageNet individuals and potentially impacted customers. They are to perform first level troubleshooting and then escalate to engineering when issues are not immediately resolved. The technicians perform all geographically diverse VSAT network hub rolls. Additional duties include site level configuration builds based on provided templates, maintenance window support including site level software or configuration updates, various data entry tasks, ad-hoc reports as requested, and facility walk-throughs.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Monitor the availability and performance of core datacenter components using provided tools

  • Maintain monitoring tools

  • Responsible for accurate documentation, appropriate escalation, and accurate outage communication to all parties for the duration of all network outage events

  • Perform routing and RF related work as well as handle communication with the customer and internally for geo-redundant VSAT network rolls between Marietta and Chicago facilities

  • Communicate with customer and internally to coordinate network rolls for all geo-diverse networks. Perform any necessary routing changes, RF switching, RF carrier level verification, network recovery verification, etc. to accommodate minimal downtime for the customer during network roll.

  • Provide technical support and point of contact for customers and engineering for network related issues

  • Perform escalations, per the prescribed process, to Engineers and management

  • Assume responsibility for availability/recovery time

  • Limited responsibility for troubleshooting problems with single sites

  • Perform hourly physical site walk-through and inspection of all Data Center facility equipment

  • Identify failures, repair and/or escalate as necessary

  • Monitor assigned SAP queues and perform the creation/modification/deletion of sites in the various Network Management Systems and related sub-systems

  • Build configure and implement new customer networks as required.

  • Creation of ad hoc reports from various systems

  • Preparation and implementation network changes within approved Maintenance Windows

  • Perform various data entry tasks as assigned

  • Provide assistance to Engineering teams with Maintenance Window preparation and execution

  • First level management, configuration, and troubleshooting of network devices to include: Routers, Switches, Firewalls, VPNs, VoIP devices, etc.

  • Create/modification/deletion of VOIP sites

  • Monitor the weather and decide if a network needs to be rolled due to incoming weather

  • Build/delete cacti graphs

  • Additional duties as assigned


  • 2 years of relevant experience working in a data center or teleport

  • High school diploma required

  • Technical degree preferred

  • Ability to work shifts including nights and weekends

  • Ability to follow complex instructions with minimal supervision

  • Familiarity with TCP/IP networking fundamentals

  • Satellite networking experience preferred

  • Use of networking tools to include: RDP, Telnet, Cacti, and Netcool experience preferred

  • Vendor specific experience is a plus: Gilat, Fortinet, and Cisco training/certifications preferred)

  • Proficiency in Windows and Linux administration desired

  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Must be able to create technical documentation based on a working procedure

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

  • Duties require an individual without fear of heights (i.e. roof, ladder, antenna platforms, etc.)

Physical Requirements

  • Be able to sit for long periods of time

  • Continuous use of hands and fingers for typing and eyes for reviewing computer screens

  • Be able to lift at least 50 lbs.
