The San Francisco Federal Reserve Bank is looking for a Manager, Data and Policy to join our team. Are you passionate about leading a team of analysts studying the future of cash? Then bring your economics, public policy, or operations research background to identify and address policy and operational challenges for the Federal Reserve System's Cash Product Office!

The Cash Product Office (CPO) is responsible for the strategic direction and national support for Federal Reserve Cash Services (FedCash Services). The CPO provides operational mentorship and technology strategies for U.S. currency and coin supplied to depository institutions by the twelve Federal Reserve Banks. As leader of the Market Analysis team, you will responsible for leading a team of analysts and researchers who explore the ever-changing payments landscape. You will be responsible for developing and owning the execution of a research agenda that includes qualitative and quantitative analyses of topics including how consumers and merchants use and handle US currency. You will also be called upon to lead and coordinate outreach efforts to better understand payment trends, such as interviews and conferences with organizations handling cash.
Essential Responsibilities:

  • Conduct and support research related to domestic and international trends in cash usage and cash handling practices, financial institutions' use of FedCash services, and operational issues in support of strategic planning.
  • Utilize analytical and collaborative skills both within the Federal Reserve and among cash handling organizations to develop and implement outreach efforts to better understand the payments landscape, and cash's role within it.
  • Apply strong project and people leadership skills to develop and refine research and policy questions, including project timelines, work plans and analytical approaches, and then oversee research projects.
  • Collaborate with other teams to identify emerging policy and operational issues, analyze alternatives, and recommend changes as necessary.
  • Draft and edit reports on findings and recommendations, and present information to diverse partners.
  • Coordinate team efforts to update and improve analytical tools and systems.
  • Employ teamwork/consensus building skills, explain strategic direction and empower staff to meet organizational goals, facilitate improvement in execution and organizational change initiatives.
  • Lead all aspects of and perform ad hoc analysis as needed.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university in Economics, Public Policy, Operations Research or related field or equivalent work experience.
  • Typically requires seven or more years of related work experience in policy or economic analysis.
  • Typically requires five or more years of proven experience in leading, mentoring and developing staff, as well as project management.
  • Strong data visualization, writing and oral communication skills and ability to tailor messages for a range of audiences.
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, organizational and planning skills.
  • Ability to complete multiple projects simultaneously, work effectively with diverse organizations and in a team environment as well as independently.
  • Strong work ethic and ability to adapt to changing business needs.
  • Expertise in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
  • Must be a US Citizen or Green Card holder with the intent to become a US Citizen.
  • Willing and able to travel up to 15% after health emergency.
Preferred:
  • Master's degree in Economics, Public Policy, Operations Research or related field.
  • Knowledge of Federal Reserve Cash Services.
  • Hands on experience using database and statistical programs/languages (e.g. SQL, SAS, STATA) to collect, combine, transform and analyze data.
