Under the direct supervision of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Development Director will be a foundational member of a high performance leadership team. The DD is responsible for assisting in securing financial resources through grants and appeals which will support the organization's programs and services. The DD will spearhead development/grant efforts as CDHC continues to grow as well as design and execute on a comprehensive development strategy for CDHC. The DD will oversee and execute ongoing fundraising efforts and capital campaigns if needed; set up donor programs involving living wills, bequests and trusts. Develop, create, maintain and manage donor databases for fundraising purposes. Secure federal, state and local grants; solicit individual or corporate donations; or organize fundraising activities, such as social events, direct mail or product sponsorships.


  • Grants management of all company Federal, State and Local grant awards
  • Collaborate with CEO and Board of Directors to create a fund development plan which increases revenues to support the strategic direction of CDHC
  • Management of the organization website and presents
  • Monitor and evaluate all fundraising activities to ensure that the goals are being achieved
  • Monitor trends in the community and adapt fundraising strategies as necessary
  • Develop and manage timelines for various development activates to ensure strategic goals and processes are carried out in a timely manner
  • Serve as the company point of contact for the United Way of the Midlands
  • Manage Electronic Hand Book (EHB) operations including but not limited to: alignment of scope and updates; 330 grants submission; additional and removal of user
  • Prepare and submit grant applications as outlined in the fund development plan to generate funds for CDHC
  • Work and engage with volunteer groups and organization to support CDHC's mission using standard volunteer practices
  • Develop and gain approval for annual income and expenditure budget for the Development department
  • Prepare regular reports on progress, budget and opportunities to increase resources and development activates
  • Will set the organization's strategic fundraising agenda to achieve and exceed its revenue goals through the solicitation of individual, corporate and foundation support and grants.
  • Identify staffing and volunteer needs for development and capital campaigns
  • Conduct research, prospecting and application development for federal, state and local grants
  • Train and mentor development staff and communicate fundraising goals and progress throughout CDHC
  • Serves as staff liaison to the Development Committee
  • At the request of CEO, provide ad-hoc reports for Board of Director and Sub-Committee meetings
  • At the request of the CEO, represents the CEO at internal and external meetings.
  • Participate in professional development activities to keep current with trends and practices in fund development, marketing and healthcare.
  • Research and review federal, state and local laws and regulations, including proposed health care legislation and regulations, health law, procurement and contract law, administrative law, and employment and labor law.
  • In partnership with the CEO, draft, revise and negotiate a wide variety of contract documents including, but not limited to, professional services agreements, affiliations agreements, vendor contracts, and provider employment agreements.
  • Support communications, investigation and document gathering related to health related malpractice claims and/or lawsuits
  • Maintain a current understanding of regulatory trends and changes in law; advise appropriate management and staff of trends affecting their areas of responsibility.

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's preferred or 6+ years industry experience
  • Active and valid driver's license
  • Strong fund development, marketing, staff and volunteer management; ideally in a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), Clinic setting or Hospital setting; with 5+year in a socially responsible company with progressive experience in team building
  • Demonstrated experience in grants management, organizational, managerial and communications skills in community based organization setting
  • Demonstrated mastery of critical thinking, analytics, and problem solving skills required.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact and communicate effectively with individuals at various levels both inside and outside of the organization, often in sensitive situations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products; fund development software i.e. Raiser's Edge; marketing software; internet; social media platforms
  • Hours of Work: Expect to work 40 hours a week minimum; some weekends
  • Travel: Some travel required.
  • Exposure: The exposure characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this position. For example, while performing the essential functions of this job, the employee (Frequency) is exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. Additionally, the employee may (Frequency) be exposed to blood borne and other hazardous chemicals. Finally, the noise level in the work environment can (Frequency) is quite loud. In all cases personal protective equipment will be provided to the employee in combination with adequate ventilation and other engineering controls to minimize the risk of exposure or other hazardous occurrence.
