Job Description
Director Capital Planning:

Reporting to the Head of Capital Management, the Director of Capital Planning is responsible for managing sustainable processes related to development of Capital Planning activities, including contribute extensively to supporting Capital Stress Testing activities for SVB Financial as a critical management function. Successfully leading the process requires in depth knowledge of the regulatory capital environment and the ability to effectively communicate the direction of the Company based on elements in the capital planning process. Properly and accurately monitoring, analyzing, and forecasting capital adequacy is a critical activity for the Company. Contributing in a material way to the regulatory stress testing process and providing ongoing support is necessary to meet the ever-increasing regulatory requirements. The Director position provides breadth and depth to the Treasury team in an area where full attention and demonstrated experience is mandatory.

Essential Functions:

Supports the Capital Planning & Strategy function within Corporate Treasury to meet regulatory expectations and current range of practices. Develops and oversees appropriate methods, processes, and measures that reflect risks to capital adequacy inherent in SVBFGs business model and unique risk exposures across the global organization. Creates and maintains an effective written capital management strategy including target capital levels and composition and including capital distribution strategies. The individual collaborates closely with the Liquidity Risk Management and Asset Liability Management teams, within Corporate Treasury, to coordinate liquidity management components of SVBFGs annual Capital Planning process to ensure continuity in the base capital forecast and capital stress testing scenarios.

Leads staff in the productions of an effective framework supporting the company's capital stress testing process which includes the development of idiosyncratic capital stress scenarios, use of quantitative models, establishing proper governance of assumptions and controls, and providing clear communication to Senior Management and the Board on established capital limits and goals. Rationalizes and recommends appropriate capital limits and guidelines in a comprehensive manner by addressing key exposures to credit risk, market risk, liquidity risk, operational risk, legal/compliance risk.

Explores and analyzes opportunities to develop capital-focused business models that optimize risk-adjusted return on capital, regulatory return on capital, and return on equity. Supports Head of Capital & Strategy with the development and execution of debt/equity capital markets issuances and is expected to liaise directly with regulators and rating agencies on matters related to capital adequacy.

This position oversees the production of annual FRY 14-A and supports FRY 14-M/Q reporting through collaboration with Regulatory Reporting.

This individual actively participates as a member of the Asset Liability Committee, as well as, other supporting sub-committees. The individual offers thoughtful perspectives on the macroeconomic environment, capital management strategies, and business trends relevant to SVBFGs clients and strategic initiatives.

Skills and Requirements:

Demonstrates a clear understanding of regulatory capital adequacy guidelines for Banks and Bank Holding Companies.Possesses extensive knowledge of current banking regulations outlined in the Dodd-Frank Act and other applicable U.S Regulatory Guidelines specifically relating to capital planning, stress testing and other capital management activities. The incumbent should be familiar with capital market instruments and issuance activities and possesses complex financial modeling capabilities.Demonstrates the ability to clearly articulate the components of capital planning process, changes in the capital position and adequacy of the Company and the impact and sensitivity of various economic scenarios on the Company's operating results.

Displays results oriented, out-front leadership skills that foster teamwork and equitable workflow distribution. Success in the role will be demonstrated as the team grows and evolves and through applying effective project management organization and coordinated planning. The individual should apply innovative and thought-provoking ideas when problem solving and developing capital strategies.

Education & Experience:

10+ years of successively responsible leadership positions in large or growing Financial Institutions (preferably, CCAR banks) with specific experience in capital planning and capital stress testing. A proven track record in successful project management managing multiple parallel workstreams.

Advanced degrees in Business Management, Economics, Mathematics and/or Statistics are valuable in communication with achievements in industry recognized certifications (i.e. CFA, CPA, etc.)
