Position Summary

The Director of Clinical Nutrition has the overall responsibility for the development, implementation, coordination, performance, and effectiveness of the Division of Clinical Nutrition at Long Beach Medical Center and Miller Children's & Women's Hospital Long Beach including: the clinical practice of Registered Dietitians, inpatient medical nutrition therapy programs, outpatient medical nutrition therapy programs, Human Milk & Formula Lab, and the pasteurized human donor milk program.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Leads and develops Clinical Nutrition division vision and goals congruent with the mission, vision, values and campuses' strategic initiatives.
  • Strategically plans for departmental growth and its impact on the medical centers.
  • Develops and implements clinical programs and services to improve quality and operational efficiency utilizing a Lean mindset, methods and management system.
  • Provides leadership, expertise and management in all areas of responsibility.
  • Demonstrates leadership which encourages and promotes a culture of patient safety. Develops and maintains medical staff and interdepartmental relationships which foster open communication and mutual respect.
  • Ensures regulatory compliance with state and federal agencies as related to the clinical practice of Registered Dietitians and the Human Milk & Formula Lab.
  • Develops and manages department Policy and Procedure consistent with professional scope of practice and regulatory requirements.
  • Creates and manages operating budgets for areas of responsibility.
  • Understands and analyzes department productivity and makes necessary adjustments to meet established targets.
Experience
  • 5 years leadership experience in a Clinical Nutrition setting with progressive and increasing scope of responsibility and history of demonstrated success.
  • Experience in a pediatric acute care setting preferred.

Education
  • Master's Degree in Dietetics, Nutrition Science, Public Health, or Business Health Administration desired.
  • Active/current Registered Dietitian (RD) registration, also known as Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist (RD/N), confirmed by the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
  • California Children's Services paneling preferred.
