  • BS Degree from an accredited institution in engineering or physical science from an accredited program.
  • Minimum 15 years of progressive experience in managing environmental programs in a multi-national manufacturing organization at location, business unit or corporate level
  • Minimum 5 years of management of staff and/or oversight of consultants
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in US EPA regulatory programs under CAA, CWA, RCRA and EPCRA
  • Minimum 10 years of experience with environmental permitting (air, water, waste), regulatory agency negotiations, and permit implementation
  • Minimum 3 years of experience with developing and implementing GHG and other environmental metrics programs to support the development of sustainability targets, and with preparing ESG reports and disclosures to internal and external stakeholders
  • Minimum 3 years of experience with obtaining and evaluating Phase I and Phase II environmental site assessments for actual or potential liabilities

Preferred Qualifications:
  • MS Degree and/or professional certification (PE, PG, MBA)
  • Experience in the metals industry (i.e. primary, secondary, or fabricated metals)
  • Experience with third-party verification of Scope 1, 2 and 3 GHG emissions
  • Experience with European Union environmental and GHG regulatory programs
  • Experience with reporting into ESG disclosure platforms (e.g., CDP, Ecovadis, etc.)
  • Able to independently analyze large data sets, strong Excel skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications (Outlook, Teams, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, SharePoint)
  • Ability to travel internationally
  • Strong communications skills, both verbal and written

Salary range : $160 - 180k/year approximation (Actual compensation is subject to variation due to factors such as education, experience, skillset, and/or location). Basic Qualifications:

This position is responsible for directing the development and consistent implementation of environmental policies, practices, and data management across all Howmet businesses.

The primary areas of focus for this role include compliance with internal environmental standards and regulatory requirements, development and implementation of systems for management of companywide environmental KPI targets to support ESG reporting, and environmental due diligence in conjunction with acquisition and divestiture.

This position reports to the Global Director, EHS and Sustainability and closely interacts with internal customers at the Corporate (EHS, Legal, Finance), business unit, and location levels. The Senior Environmental Specialist reports to this position.

The individual must have a solid understanding of US EPA laws, regulations and permitting requirements, and have experience with agency negotiations. The ideal candidate has led environmental and sustainability programs across multiple manufacturing locations and has a solid understanding of industrial processes and associated pollution control equipment typically found in medium to heavy manufacturing operations. The Director must have a vision of what is possible, drive change where needed, lead cross-functional activities, and build effective relationships at all levels of the Howmet organization and with external vendors and suppliers.

Key Roles and Responsibilities include:

Corporate Environmental Management

  • Provide overall leadership and direction to the company's environmental program for conformance with Howmet's EHS Policy, mandatory standards and policies, and for consistent implementation across all business segments and locations.
  • Serve as a member of Howmet's EHS Council and develop effective working relationships with its members to advance the corporate environmental requirements and expectations. Support the Howmet Environmental Committee with consistent implementation of requirements across the four business units.
  • Maintain and enhance a compliance management system and environmental permit review process to minimize the risk of noncompliance and to prevent recurrence of non-compliance for similar issues.
  • Provide environmental due diligence support for acquisitions and divestitures of properties to minimize environmental liabilities to Howmet. In this capacity, closely work with the Remediation Sr. Manager to ensure alignment of A&D strategy and actions.

Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG)
  • As a key member of the Sustainability Working Team, provide strategic direction on environmental sustainability targets; support the Sr. Environmental Specialist and the ESG Specialist with obtaining, analyzing, and presenting of environmental metrics and GHG emission data to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proactively identify key environmental metrics for enterprise-wide tracking, including those associated with emerging issues. Develop and maintain systems for effective collection and analysis of metrics data to be able to rapidly respond to the needs of internal and external stakeholders. Coordinate data and software needs with the Senior Manager for EHS Systems.
