Job Summary:


Reporting to the Vice President of Business Development, this Strategic Capture Director will be a key member of the leadership team and will participate in all strategic growth initiatives. She/he will reach across the companys Logistics Support Services portfolio. This portfolio consists of ground and aviation based contractor logistics support contracts which include requirements such as material maintenance, supply chain management, warehousing & distribution, and transportation & motor pool. This person will lead strategic and large-scale, complex, captures of $100M or greater across multiple geographic locations, both CONUS and OCONUS. The Strategic Capture Director will be responsible for leading pre-proposal shaping activities, all capture activities during the proposal phase, and post-submittal activities to substantially increase the win probability for deals.


Responsibilities:

  • Lead strategic capture activities for Akimas Logistics Support Services portfolio

  • Provide critical leadership on major capture efforts from the win strategy development through the post submission phases until award

  • Direct plans and activities for capture to increase revenue, growth, and profit in support of long-term strategy and business objectives

  • Develop and implement the overall capture plan, strategy, and internal and external partnerships by thinking strategically about the business, meeting with customers, and asking the right questions

  • Lead and facilitate win strategy development sessions including technical, management, teaming, past performance, staffing, pricing, etc.

  • Lead the development of customer hot buttons, including customer needs and concerns

  • Align marketing intelligence with the win strategy

  • Lead competitive assessments and price-to-win efforts

  • Explain and possess knowledge of competitors trends and weaknesses to better understand, identify, qualify, and coordinate bid targets

  • Select teammates and key personnel that meet or exceed RFP requirements and manage related activities such as teaming agreements and offer letters

  • Develop and lead alternative teaming strategies such as joint ventures and mentor-protg agreements

  • Secure and manage capture consultants, and their contractual agreements

  • Develop/implement winning strategies that highlight strengths and mitigate weaknesses

  • Work at the highest levels of leadership within Akima and within customers

  • Brief capture status to senior management at specified milestones in the capture process

  • Motivate and energize a differentiated and compelling team to produce a winning solution that is fully incorporated into a compliant and responsive proposal

  • Work with the proposal team to develop a differentiated proposal that tells a clear and compelling story of Why Akima

  • Manage capture activities within approved budgets

This person will possess both a broad strategic perspective and a very hands-on capture persona. This Strategic Capture Director is a key, high-impact member of the corporate management team. Success in the near term will focus on working with the team to enhance win strategy and win rates, anticipating problems and customer needs, and properly positioning Akima to win large scale opportunities.



  • Previous demonstrated, recent experience in market analysis and strategic business planning including identification, qualification, and capture leading to award of major programs

  • Experience in ground base logistics capture efforts

  • 7+ years of capture lead experience focused on leading single-award prime captures for customers such as the U.S. Department of Defense (Air Force, Army, Navy, and subordinate services and agencies) and civilian agencies such as the Department of Homeland Security, Department of Energy, National Aeronautics and Space Administration, and others

  • Track record of success winning $100M+ single-award captures with at least 5 wins in the previous 5 years, one of which was $100M+

  • Track record of penetrating new customers with solutions to include: Logistics Support Services portfolio

  • Deep knowledge and understanding of the Federal procurement process to include the Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR)

  • Creative out of the box strategic thinker who has had success winning new business with new customers as a Capture Lead

  • Prior program management experience is desirable

  • Ability to lead interdisciplinary teams with varying levels of experience

  • Understanding of proposal development roles, processes and procedures, and ability to write key proposal sections such as the Executive Summary

  • Deep knowledge of the Federal procurement process, current acquisition trends, and customer buying behaviors

  • Strong planning, organizational, problem solving, decision making and time management skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

  • Executive Presence required to lead and inspire confidence in pursuit teams to work constructively and calmly under stress and pressure

  • Experience presenting opportunity gate reviews, proposal reviews, and lessons learned reviews to senior executive staff

  • Ability to travel up to 20 percent of the time or as business dictates

  • In the current COVID-19 environment, able to work remotely during core business hours using company-provided equipment and platforms while demonstrating effective time management

  • Bachelors Degree with a preference for scientific, engineering or business discipline; advanced degree highly desired

  • Currently holds or has the ability to obtain a security clearance
