JOB SUMMARY
  • Responsible for the around-the-clock management and direction of the patient care area. Coordinates the efforts of staff, ensures the provision of quality, cost-effective care and manages the clinical and financial performance of the patient care area. Ensures Relationship Based Care philosophy is practiced by all nursing associates. Reports to the Executive Director or Vice President.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS
  • Education and Experience
    • The knowledge, skills, and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the successful completion of a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing. Master of Science in Nursing preferred. Must be licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Indiana. A minimum of 2 to 5 years of job-related experience is required. Management/supervisory experience required. Specialty certification recognized by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) in the applicable area of practice.

      Minimal Acceptable Job Qualifications, Registration/Certification/Licensure:

    • BCLS within 90 days of obtaining position for all Registered Nurses.
    • ACLS within one year of obtaining position in: ED, Interventional Radiology, Surgical Services, PACU, Endoscopy, Outpatient Surgery, Critical Care Center, Progressive Care Center, Intermediate Care Center, Nursing Resource Pool, Labor & Delivery.
    • NRP within 90 days of obtaining position in: Labor & Delivery, Mother/Baby and NICU.
    • PALS within 90 days of obtaining position in: Outpatient Surgery, PACU, Pediatrics, ED (PALS or ENPC). All current RNs will have until December 31, 2016 to complete and become certified in PALS or ENPC (ER nurses can take ENPC in lieu of PALS)
    • Obtain and maintain EKG class within 4 months of hire. EKG classes are required as follows:
      • Introduction to EKG in: ED, CCC, PCU, ICC, Medical, Post Surgical, TJU, Oncology, Nursing Resource Pool, Pediatrics, Interventional Radiology, PACU, OPS, Endoscopy. Current RNs working in the listed departments will have until December 31, 2016 to obtain EKG class.
      • Obtain 12 lead EKG within 1 year in: PCU and CCC. Current RNs working in PCU or CCC will have until December 31, 2016 to obtain 12 Lead EKG training.
    • Obtain Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) within 2 years in ED, OR, PACU, and CCC. Current RNs working in these departments will have until December 31, 2016 to complete TNCC course.
  • Knowledge & Skills
  • Demonstrates a high level of knowledge and competency in interdisciplinary planning as well as performing nursing care procedures, assessments, treatment and techniques.
  • Requires strong analytical and organizational skills necessary to assess, develop and implement individualized plans of patient care/education in changing patient situations with recognition of actual and potential problems, patient/family involvement and the collection of data related to unit nursing care concerns.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills necessary to establish and maintain positive therapeutic relationships with patients and families and effective working relationships with staff, physicians and others.
  • Requires leadership skills in order to provide constructive feedback to peers regarding nursing issue, and participate in unit and hospital wide decision making, be adaptable, flexible and support changes made.
  • Requires general working knowledge of the normal growth, development, related behaviors, needs, comfort, and range of treatment appropriate to the age (including neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric) and diagnosis of patient served to support the provision of an individualized interdisciplinary plan of care.
  • Requires an understanding of the need to be responsive and reasonably adaptable for scheduling purposes, when necessary, due to extenuating circumstances in support of co-workers and department functions.
  • Requires the ability to work independently, take initiative and be self-motivated.
  • Demonstrates basic computer knowledge and skills.
  • Requires good conflict management skills.
  • Demonstrates strong communication skills, problem-solving, analytical ability, and prioritization skills.
  • Requires solid knowledge of clinical skills necessary for unit of practice.
  • Working Conditions
    • Due to large scope of responsibility, there will be frequent interruptions and multiple demands.
    • At risk for occupational exposure to blood borne pathogens.
  • Physical Demands
    • Requires the physical ability and stamina to perform the essential functions of the position.
