Assist patients with performing activities of daily living when delegated by RN. Obtains vital signs on patients and reports to assigned nurse. Keeps the nurse up-to-date on any changes in patient information. Patient Reception- Represents the hospital in a compassionate and caring manner as an integral member of the health care team.
- Smiles and greets all customers who present for care, treatment, and direction.
- Answers telephone in a courteous manner.
- Keeps in contact with the patients who are waiting for care in conjunction with the triage nurse.
- Acts as a liaison between patient/family and physicians/staff.
Education/Training- Attends and participates in workshops, mandatory/voluntary in-services and unit meetings.
- Actively participates in educating and orienting students and new personnel to unit and routines.
- Is responsible for 100% of information shared at staff meetings.
- Participates in Hazmat training.
- Completes skills verification as required.
- Contribute to the overall effectiveness of the department
- Completes other job-related duties and projects as assigned.
- Suggests and plans ways to improve processes on unit.
- Actively assists Care Innovation Council (EDGE Team) with improved processes.
Patient Care/Safety:- Reports all unusual occurrences including hazardous or life-threatening situations to triage nurse of appropriate care giver.
- Promotes safety and security measures by using de-escalation techniques with disruptive patient situations. Requests assistance from security officers as needed.
- Communicates complete accurate information in a professional and timely manner to co-workers, physicians, and other disciplines.
- Maintains safe environment for patient and self through adherence to safety and infection control.
- Anticipates changes in patient condition based on history and presenting symptoms.
- Performs splint application, cast cutting, administers enemas and performs wound care as directed.
- Obtains 12-lead EKG's and connects patients to cardiac monitors.
- Taking and recording vital signs including temperatures, blood pressure, pulse and respirations; also measuring and recording standing or bed scale weights.
- Collects specimens appropriately.
- Performs set up for suturing, pelvic exams, I&D, chest tubes, lumbar puncture, eye irrigation performs unit maintenance and stocking of equipment.
- Follows infection prevention policy at all times. Utilizes standard work when cleaning rooms between patients.
- Assists nurse/physician with other procedures as directed.
ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIESAssociate complies with the following organizational requirements:
- Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared.
- Completes mandatory education, annual competencies an d department specific education within established timeframes.
- Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes.
- Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year.
- Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR) and other certifications as required by position/department.
- Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self.
- Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance.
- Complies with established organization and department policies.
- Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required.

Education and Experience- The knowledge, skills, and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the successful completion of a High School Diploma or Equivalent. EMT certified (First Response, Basic, Advanced, or Paramedic), Certified Nursing Assistant or currently enrolled in a School of Nursing preferred. Must obtain Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS/CPR) within 3 months of hire and maintain current certification. Experience in the Emergency Department or other related healthcare experience preferred.

- Works 8 to 12 hour shifts, including holidays and weekends.
Physical Demands- Requires the physical ability and stamina (i.e. to walk/stand for prolonged periods of time, push carts/wheelchairs up to 50 pounds, to position/lift patients at a maximum of 35 pounds unassisted, over 35 pounds requires assistance, provide CPR, etc.) to perform the essential functions of the position.
