The Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia is one of the 12 regional Reserve Banks that, together with the Board of Governors in Washington, D.C., make up the Federal Reserve System. It helps formulate and implement monetary policy, supervises banks and bank and savings and loan holding companies, and provides financial services to depository institutions and the federal government. The Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia serves eastern and central Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey, and Delaware.

Job Summary:
Identifies, collects, and maintains databases required to support economic outlook presentations. Recommends, initiates, plans and executes research projects to support the senior outreach economist and expand the capacity of the Bank to speak meaningfully to its constituencies.
Delivers presentations on the national economy, the regional economy, and Fed policy to District constituencies and internal audiences approved by the Speakers Bureau.
This position will support the Public Programs activity 100% of the time.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Identifies, collects, and analyzes complex economic and financial data required to support economic outlook presentations. Working with colleagues in Economic Research, Community Development and Regional Outreach, Supervision, Regulation and Credit, and other areas of the Bank, conducts in-depth analyses of economic and financial conditions, trends, and issues relevant to the District.
Produces, documents, and maintains chart package of economic indicators for external and internal speeches and presentations.
Writes computer programs in R, visual basic, SAS, SQL and other similar software to support, expand and improve data analysis.
Performs statistical and econometric analysis on personal computers and other platforms using standard statistical software such as R or Stata.
Recommends, initiates, plans, and executes research projects under the guidance of the senior outreach economist and other Bank staff that expand the capacity of the Bank to speak meaningfully to its constituencies and to support the strategy of the Director of Research and the SVP of Corporate Affairs.
May be asked to support projects and initiatives conducted by the Regional and Microeconomics section, as appropriate. Examples may include but are not limited to, conducting surveys to collect data, analyzing data, drafting reports, and providing presentations on the findings.
Reviews and summarizes literature on economic, financial, and research topics.
Manages data sources, such as Haver, providing updates on data definitions, revisions, and availability.Writes economic analysis for speeches and Bank publications, including providing html or pdf files for inclusion on Bank's external website.
Delivers presentations on the national economy, the regional economy, and Fed policy to business, professional, civic, and other appropriate organizations in the District as well as internal audiences approved by the Speakers' Bureau.
Shares expertise and analysis with general public through media outlets approved by the Director of Research and the SVP of Corporate Affairs by writing articles and giving interviews.
Prepares briefing materials for senior management on general regional economic conditions. May be asked to participate and present in executive briefing sessions.
Keeps abreast of research and analysis performed throughout the Federal Reserve System and at the Bank. Also, keeps abreast of relevant developments in the disciplines of economics, finance, and statistics.
Participates in the activities of District chambers of commerce and other business and professional associations.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Fulfills job duties and responsibilities in conformance with sound safety practices.Education and Experience:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in economics, finance, or public policy and specialized knowledge in these fields gained from advanced study or several years' experience. Master's degree in economics, finance, statistics, or public policy strongly preferred.

Knowledge and Skills:
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Strong presentation skills.
Ability to articulate issues clearly and accurately.
Thorough knowledge of and ability to apply economic theory and quantitative techniques in research projects.
In-depth knowledge of PC and mainframe statistical programs, such as R, visual basic, SQL, and Eviews/Stata, to organize data into files and to perform advanced statistical and econometric analyses.
Comprehensive knowledge of economic data and its sources, such as Haver, so that relevant data can be selected for research projects and for speeches and presentation visuals.
Strong interpersonal skills, capable of interacting effectively with economics and finance professionals inside and outside the Federal Reserve System.
Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
Ability to work independently on reports, projects, and publications.

Other Requirements:
Background investigations including drug testing are required for all new hires as a condition of employment, after the job offer is made. Employment may not begin until the Bank accepts the results of the background investigation.

Ability to travel approximately 25% of the time; less than 5% of travel is overnight.
Valid Drivers License.

Physical Requirements:
Must be able to sit and work at the personal computer for extended periods of time.
Ability to lift and carry materials and/or equipment required for delivering presentations to public audiences.
