Functional Description: Technical Individual Contributor

Provides technical and sustaining engineering support in a manufacturing area. Recommends and implements equipment and process modifications to improve production efficiencies, manufacturing techniques and production yields for existing products. Develops and conducts statistical analysis such as Design of Experiments (DOE) and Statistical Process Control (SPC) targeting physical cause of failure for yield loss and improving quality. Interacts with product design and development personnel to ensure that processes and designs are compatible.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Improve EHS workplace performance by promoting a positive safety culture, identifying and mitigating EHS risk and implementing safety and environmental management systems in accordance with regulations, corporate compliance policies and standards.
  • Identify and evaluate hazardous conditions and practices in the workplace. Conduct and coordinate on-site inspections to audit physical conditions and safe work practices. Integration of control systems into the design of new and existing equipment
  • Coordinate the implementation of controls from results of hazard analyses and risk assessments. Measure and evaluate the effectiveness of the hazard control system, policies and procedures and recommend changes that reflect improved opportunities to mitigate workplace incidents and injuries to ALARP levels.
  • Provide system safety expertise for the engineering, design and manufacturing support for medical device applications. This person will support the safety design review for product manufacturing processes, including assisting in the development of specifications, scopes, and ensuring systems meet appropriate regulatory requirements.
  • Develop system safety standard for environmental and safety compliance, including but not limited to, prohibited materials, injury risk reduction, and pollution prevention
  • Develop, deliver and update system safety analysis and risk assessment.
  • Independently analyzes and recommends safety features and controls for system design, software, training and procedures to mitigate or eliminate hazards.
  • Perform and support the development of safety documentation associated with customer and contract requirements.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations aby actively participating in safety review meetings, system design meetings, program engineering review and change board meetings.
  • Review, investigate and implement action plans for work-related injuries, illnesses, accidents and safety concerns
  • Participate in new standard developments with Engineering, Manufacturing, and other key stakeholders.
  • Analyze data, draw conclusion and make concise report/summary and present it; Make recommendation to improve/mitigate the risks.
  • Work with various teams to review and approve designs of new equipment and modifications to existing equipment. Must be independently driven to seek improvement opportunities in the review process
  • Perform other related duties as directed that correspond to the overall function of this position.

Required Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a bachelor's degree or master's degree in engineering or a related technical/science discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience.
  • 3+ years' experience in Engineering.
  • Must be technically proficient in all areas of mechanical and electrical machinery safety for automated processes.
  • Proven knowledge in System Safety and able to run SIL/Design based risk assessments (e.g. HAZOP, pFMEA, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in automated manufacturing process, process engineering, mechanical integrity, or reliability role within a fast pace and regulated operation
  • EHS professional credential from accrediting organization or professional engineer certification.
  • Knowledge of Federal, State and Local safety and environmental laws and regulations. (OSHA, EPA, DOT, etc., and other applicable local requirements).
  • Knowledge of ANSI, CSA, ISO, and ASME Standards
  • Strong analytical skills with demonstrated problem solving ability
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Solidworks, CAD drawing software skill is a plus.
  • Ability to adapt well to fast-paced environments with changing circumstances

Experience and Education Requirements:

  • Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline, and a minimum of 0-2 years related experience.

Travel Required:

  • Up to 25%

Functional/Business Knowledge:

  • Applies basic technical understanding with the knowledge to develop process and design experiments. Possesses theoretical knowledge, but is learning the industry and requirements of applied science. Understands organizational and functional processes and policies.

Scope:

  • Demonstrates potential for technical proficiency. Works on problems of basic scope in which analysis of situation or data requires a review of data factors. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.

Judgement:

  • Follows standard practices and procedures in analyzing situations or data from which answers can be readily obtained.
  • Normally receives instructions on all work and work output it supervised.
