ERM is hiring a mid to senior-level Environmental Construction Manager, with a focus on remediation design and system construction oversight in Greenville, SC. The successful candidate will work on site investigation and remediation project work including design and construction-related tasks associated with groundwater, sediment, soil, and vapor remediation, and using in-situ and ex-situ remediation and treatment technologies. Successful candidate should have prior experience with soil excavation and in-situ soil stabilization projects. This is a fixed-term consulting role with the duration of 5 to 6 months and the possibility of renewal.


  • Contribute to the design of remedial solutions for contaminated soil, groundwater, sediment, and vapor using innovative and emerging remedial treatment technologies as well as traditional systems.
  • Provide construction management, construction quality assurance, and on-site health and safety support on construction projects involving civil works, site development/restoration, earthwork operations, remedial systems, land disposal facilities, industrial water and wastewater treatment systems, air treatment systems, and related environmental projects.
  • Plan and execute medium- to large-scale remedial construction projects including pre-construction conferences, field oversight of contractors, communication with inspectors, construction quality assurance/quality control (CQA/CQC) oversight, progress meetings, schedule management, on-site coordination, compliance audits, health and safety audits, and problem exposure, risk reduction and resolution meetings.
  • Review contractor submittals, including but not limited to, Requests for Information, contract clarifications, contract-required submittals, change order requests, and other documents related to compliance with project specifications.
  • Coordinate the resolution of issues arising from the inspection process or from contract administration.
  • Provide liaison between field activities and in-house Project Manager, assume prime responsibility for assuring completion of projects in the field in conformance with project plans and specifications, and assure that clarifications and interpretations required for proper execution of the contract are implemented.
  • Plan and oversee junior staff on fieldwork including remedial pilot tests, smaller-scale construction projects, collection of design parameter field data, and remedial system operation and maintenance.
  • Perform remediation design tasks including evaluation of field data, design calculations, constructability reviews, preparation of remediation/construction bid packages, and estimation of quantities and probable costs.
  • Preparation of various reports including design basis, construction documentation, health and safety plans, stormwater pollution prevention plans, contingency plans, hazardous waste and soil management plans, traffic control plans, system operation and maintenance plans, etc..
  • Appropriately delegate project assignments to project team members and mentor junior staff.
  • Interface with in-house Project Managers to identify and track upcoming construction management requirements and identify upcoming work.
  • Build strong collaborative relationships with ERM employees, clients, and subcontractors.


  • High School Diploma required
  • Bachelors in Geology, Engineering, Science, or related degree is preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in environmental construction and remedial system operation, maintenance and monitoring.
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER training required.
  • Working knowledge of industrial hygiene and safety (for worker protection), asbestos abatement, RCRA waste management, and waste manifesting requirements.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Effective written/verbal communication and organization/analytical skills.
  • Strong commitment to safety including following and implementing established Health and Safety protocols.
  • HAZWOPER Supervisor, DOT basic Hazmat awareness, OSHA 30-hour construction, and First Aid/CPR training preferred.
  • Ability to succeed in a consulting pace, handling multiple project assignments, and maintaining flexibility, while meeting deadlines.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Project or Primavera scheduling software. Experience with AutoCAD a plus.
  • Must possess a valid drivers license.
