The ESIS National Claims Director - Large WC Programs will be the lead on all aspects of California claims technical management for high profile clients Workers Compensation claim programs. The Claim Director has responsibility for technical, operational, and administrative claim functions; reserving authority for claims; as well as providing organizational direction to the client's designated claim teams.

This position has reporting requirements to a number of ESIS Claim executives and will be a direct report of the SVP, ESIS Field Claims. This position can be located in any of the ESIS Claim Offices.


  • Management and oversight of all client claims, providing claims leadership for the clients entire book of Workers Compensation claims.

  • Oversight of performance including claim development, identifying trends, implementing strategies and techniques to improve outcomes, and managing staff in a matrixed environment for peak performance,

  • Direct and indirect handling of, or involvement in, the resolution of all claims, including high exposure determinations.

  • Communicate claims development to Client Services executive and Executive Management.

  • Identify claims trends, develop proactive plans to influence outcomes and communicate to appropriate stakeholders

  • Participate in conducting internal audits of claims files and external audits of law firms and other vendors involved in the program.

  • Maintain team claim file quality, execute claims best practices, and ensure claims regulatory compliance, operating within a Sarbanes-Oxley compliant environment.

  • Travel to attend conferences, stewardship meetings, audits, etc., as necessary.

  • Senior Report to and confer with ESIS Claims Management and ESIS Senior Management on individual exposures, developing trends, and trends within the industry and legal environment.
  • Utilizes software applications to monitor, track and report on claims. Also use software to produce reports, presentations and other communications with the client and within ESIS.

  • California Workers Compensation claims leadership experience required to influence a staff of dedicated claims professionals responsible for the investigation and ultimate adjudication of claims arising on a high profile account

  • Proven leadership, management and influence skills

  • College degree and/or equivalent industry experience

  • Strong abilities in technical claim handling and management, proactive client interaction, and resolution of issues

  • Strong customer service and client facing experience

  • Demonstrated experience working with large programs

  • Ability to identify trends and develop proactive plans to influence outcomes

  • Experience working with large programs

  • Superior verbal and written communication skills

  • Matrix management experience with proven track record of handling complex issues for the benefit of multiple constituents.
