Provides department with accounting services such as account reconciliation, statement preparation, account monitoring, data maintenance, report preparation, technical assistance, financial analysis, budget assistance, quality assurance, payroll coordinator for the department, and departmental human resources duties.

Monitoring departmental accounts, accounts payable transactions, spending activity, etc. Prepares cost and budget transfers, prepares and enters requisitions and invoices into Compass/PeopleSoft for payment. Maintains department's financial records, expenditures, and income in line with grant guidelines and university policies. tracks payments, receipts, transactions, internal and external contracts, agreements, etc. Prepares financial reports to document expenditure and income activity, substantiate transactions, report findings, etc.Aids principal investigators and/or project managers, vendors, grantors in analyzing and maintaining appropriate funds for salaries, expenditures, etc. Analyzes terms of contracts to ensure compliance. Ensures the quality of data.Researches inconsistencies, and conducts follow-up investigations or consults with appropriate personnel. Human resource duties include new hires, ePafs, employee evaluations, terminations, and managing the onboarding process for new employees.Opens and monitors positions in Taleo. Tracks training of new employees and may conduct some training of office personnel.

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or related fieldor equivalent combination of education/job related experience, AND:

  • 0 - 24 months of accounting experience


  • Knowledge of Compass/PeopleSoft reports to balance and reconcile financial statement transactions to source documents.

  • Ability to produce statements of financial activity based upon monthly departmental business that can include section financials, consolidated department financials, cash flow analysis, etc.

  • Proficient in navigating and maintaining databases.

  • Knowledge of financial analyses for report preparation, to improve departmental accounting procedures, at the request of department head, etc.

  • Ability to assist in the annual preparation of budgets, both grant and departmental.

  • Proficiency with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, online systems, and the internet.

  • Highly organized, able to handle multiple projects and deadlines.

  • Detail oriented for accuracy of data and information.

  • Strong initiative to solve problems.

  • Ability to speak, read and write clear, concise English.

  • Able to communicate well and build rapport quickly.

Departmental Preferences:

  • Minimum of five years relevant experience in accounting, and finance systems and processes, including financial statement preparation, budgets, and financial and cost analysis.

  • Minimum of two years experience with the University of Oklahomas accounting systems and processes.

  • Minimum of two years experience with the University of Oklahomas Financial and HR modules, and Taleo.

  • Experience in fiscal management, working with budgets and grant budgets, allocating funding and monitoring outcomes.
