Job Description

Bioethics is a core pillar of Global Ethics and Compliance (GEC) at Takeda. Bioethics is a discipline that applies the principles of ethics to complex challenges in the fast-paced & innovative fields of biological science, medicine & healthcare; and serves to protect the integrity of Takedas contributions to these areas and, above all, to the patients we serve. Takedas Global Bioethics Program, and the leadership it provides, demonstrates Takedas commitment to serve the needs of our patients, wherever they are, and to earn the trust of society and our customers.

The Global Bioethics Program at Takeda is committed to the advancement of innovative science and healthcare via structured and collaborative mechanisms to identify, address and navigate complex bioethical scenarios. The Bioethics Program:

  • Provides internal consultative advice on emerging complex bioethical matters
  • Drives the integration and application of bioethical principles that enable responsible action and patient centered approaches to company specific challenges in healthcare
  • Drives discussions that shape corporate & industry positions, and policies related to bioethical dilemmas
  • Manages and maintains the Takeda Ethics Advisory Council (TEAC) that serve as an advisory body on emerging bioethics issues
  • Strengthens and expands the internal responsible innovation community to raise awareness, promote and embed the discipline of bioethics across Takeda
  • Builds an external network to stay abreast of emerging topics, advance the discipline and position Takeda as an industry leader in the field of bioethics

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides leadership for Takedas Global Bioethics program, executing on the overall strategic direction, and the creation and administration of structured and collaborative mechanisms to proactively and effectively address emerging bioethics issues and challenges
  • Manages the Takeda Ethics Advisory Council (TEAC), comprised of internal leaders and external ethics experts, to provide advice to Takeda on key bioethics topics.
  • Is accountable for stewarding the charter, identifying topics, synthesizing and reporting outputs to be communicated to Takeda leadership.
  • Also, proactively manages the TEAC to ensure relevant expertise is available to address emerging topics
  • Drives discussions and collaborations with business partners to develop fair and robust positions (e.g., ethics frameworks, points to consider, position papers, white papers, input to policy).
  • Provides input and guidance on operational & communications strategies to support effective and impactful implementation
  • Provides deep subject matter expertise and serves as advisor to teams and senior leaders on complex global bioethics topics
  • Fosters and embeds the application of bioethical principles across Takeda leveraging existing forums and educational channels (i.e. training, lectures, case discussions) and ensures a strong Bioethics positioning across Takeda
  • Bridges bioethics with technology ethics and the broader responsible innovation strategy, ensuring an integrated approach across E&C and Takeda
  • As part of Ethics & Responsible Innovation team drives overall agenda and strategy for Takeda in this space ensuring Bioethics is firmly established and incorporated
  • Builds a strong internal community and alliances to leverage expertise, interest and shared accountability in addressing bioethical issues, including serving on internal forums and working groups addressing or facing bioethical challenges
  • Drives the advancement of bioethics and establishes Takeda as an industry leader by maintaining a broad external network to stay abreast of emerging topics and driving external discussions and collaborations via relevant forums
  • Serve as a mentor and provides development opportunities for emerging bioethics leaders at Takeda

  • Enables a collaborative environment, encourages diverse perspectives and effectively facilitates challenging discussions

EXPERIENCE:

  • At least 10 years of experience in the healthcare industry, of those at least 5 years working in or with biopharmaceutical company with understanding of large-scale research and development
  • BS with advanced education in bioethics (advanced degree in science preferred) including experience in a bioethics-related discipline
  • Extensive knowledge of the existing and forward-looking bioethical issues encountered in the pharmaceutical industry
  • Extensive leadership and experience with advisory/consultative roles in a matrixed organization
  • Strongly networked in the discipline of bioethics
