As a Global Medical Excellence - Senior Manager, Capability Development professional working in the Medical Affairs Safety team, you will execute projects and initiatives that enhance the performance of the Takeda Medical Affairs organization through elevation of the capabilities of Medical Affairs, both across regions and functions.


Medical Excellence and Scientific Training (MEST) elevates the performance of Global Medical Affairs towards its mission of improving patient experiences and outcomes through capability development focused on insight generation, evidence generation, scientific communication and learning agility, in order to empower medical personnel to be strategic partners.

In order to build upon Medical Affairs capabilities into the future, the Medical Excellence and Scientific Training team offers a 2 year fellowship program to Doctorate of Pharmacy graduates. Fellows rotate through various functions within Medical Affairs to develop skills in the analysis, interpretation, and communication of clinical data while expanding their competencies in managing complex projects and working within matrixed, multidisciplinary teams.

The Global Medical Excellence - Senior Manager, Capability Development professional will:

  • Lead the management and operation of the Medical Affairs Fellowship program for Takeda Global Medical Affairs, ensuring excellent relationships with partnering institutions and development of potential expansion into additional universities and programs
  • Partner with other Business Units and functions within Takeda (e.g. Medical Affairs Leadership, Regional Medical Excellence, HR, Global Patient & Scientific Affairs, R&D Project Management Office, Pharmacovigilance) to establish cross-Takeda alignment with respect to capabilities and talent development programs and promote an overall culture of development within Medical Affairs


  • Drive project and resource priorities to develop capabilities in alignment with the GMA Capabilities Framework and in partnership with Global and Regional Medical Excellence colleagues
  • Manage the Medical Affairs Fellowship program to ensure program objectives are met and a rewarding experience is had by participant fellows
  • Address and resolves challenges in the Medical Affairs Fellowship program, keeping leadership informed of critical considerations (e.g., resources, performance concerns). Provides clarity and direction in urgent or unexpected situations.
  • Lead metrics and KPIs to evaluate the success of the Medical Affairs Fellowship Program through ongoing reviews of the program and its components to assess the quality of the experience and to review the resources available in order to ensure that maximal benefit is being derived from the integration of the components of the program.
  • Identify tools and systems to support deployment and operationalization of the (spell out) GMA Capabilities Framework and talent development programs, including the Medical Affairs Fellowship program, in partnership with IT and Business Solutions & Analytics
  • Assess each component of the Medical Affairs Fellowship Program to ensure that the program objectives are being met and resources are being utilized with optimal effectiveness
  • Benchmark performance of the fellowship program against our internal and external peer group
  • Partner with relevant functions (including, but not limited to, Global Medical Excellence and Scientific Training, Medical Communications, Global Medical Teams, Regional Medical Affairs teams, HR/Talent &Organizational Development, Global Patient & Scientific Affairs and other R&D Functions) in order to promote a culture of development and mentoring within the Chief Medical Office and Medical Affairs organization.
  • Ensure awareness of and compliance with all legal, regulatory and company requirements


  • A life science degree Bachelor Degree is required with an advanced degree (MD, PhD, PharmD, NP) preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years in pharma/biotech organizations, with a preference for prior experience (including participation) in fellowship programs
  • Strong understanding of roles and functions across Medical Affairs with a keen orientation to the capabilities core to the organization.
  • Experience working in complex projects in partnership with multi-functional stakeholders, including vendor/agency support
  • Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint & Word
  • Fluent in English
  • Understanding of roles in medical affairs organizations as well as an understanding of core skills and capabilities preferred
  • Understanding of Learning and Development methodologies, including principles for adult learning and familiarity with digital and online platforms
  • Participation in or experience in managing fellowship programs
  • Ability to formulate, communicate, and articulate a clear vision around the benefits of a fellowship program to the organization
  • Proven leadership skills and strategic problem-solving ability
  • Ability to seek input from a diverse group of constituents and stakeholders and adjudicate differences in perspective and feedback in order to drive decision and execution
  • Ability to communicate rationale behind a decision
  • Engage with stakeholders across functions and with varying degrees of seniority
  • Effectively communicate with and appreciate cross-cultural differences
  • Forward thinking with the ability to recommend, influence and implement organizational change and continuous innovation
  • Comfortable challenging the status quo and bringing forward innovative solutions
