Ground Systems Network Engineer

Responsibilities

Designs and plans network communications systems. Provides specifications and detailed schematics for network architecture. Conducts cost/benefit analysis and provides specific detailed information for hardware and software selection, implementation techniques and tools for the most efficient solution to meet business needs, including present and future capacity requirements. Conducts testing of network design. Responsible for monitoring network hardware operations to ensure properly set configuration options. Plans implementation of enhancements and upgrades to the network. Advises network users of hardware requirements, configurations, and limitations. Maintains technical expertise in all areas of network and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, such as routers, multiplexers, firewalls, hubs, bridges, gateways, etc. Evaluates and reports on new communications technologies to enhance capabilities of the network. May be assigned responsibility for the management of the systems administration function, including associated staff.

The Ground Systems Network Engineer will support the Ground Segment Team on a new program at Peraton, focused on systems engineering, integration and requirements definition of a new Space Domain architecture.The Ground Systems Network Engineer supports the requirements development, decomposition, flow down, verification and validation across the entire ground system. The Ground System will consist of hardware and software architecture as well as all internal and external system interfaces, including operator displays and controls. The Network Engineer shall support trade studies that provide recommendation on the potential use of Commercial Cloud Services in the Grounds Infrastructure, Platform, and Software as a service (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS) to meet security, scalability, redundancy, and resilience requirements. Specific responsibilities include:

- Define and acquire an extensive and flexible terrestrial and satcomm network system that enables resilience to cyber threats and the potential loss/degradation of critical infrastructure.

- Extend the terrestrial communication network to a multi-domain communications network that spans space and ground to achieve the necessary throughput and resilience to meet mission TPMs.

- Support system requirements verification, validation, and traceability activities.

- Support the preparation of all lifecycle readiness reviews including entry and exit criteria. , action items and liens issued at the reviews, and the production of review briefing materials. Reviews include system and various segment SRRs, SFRs, PDRs, CDRs, and other reviews as required, requiring the preparation and update of baseline requirements.


Qualifications

Requires 12 to 15 years with BS/BA or 10 to 13 years with MS/MA or 7 to 9 years with Ph.D.

Required skills:

  • Hold an active Top Secret Clearance
  • Expert with satellite ground network systems (Terrestrial Comm, Sat Comm)
  • Understanding of all aspects of the requirements formulation and validation and ability to assess program requirement risk areas and to programs design baseline cost and acquisition schedules.
  • Experience with multi-security level networks
  • Possess a strong Ground Systems Engineering background across the TCPED
  • Ability to represent key decisions and identify risks to the customer

Desired Qualifications:

  • Ability to organize and prioritize numerous customer requests in a fast pace deadline driven environment
  • Experience supporting IC or DoD in Systems Engineering and Systems Integration
  • Possess SAFE Agile certification and ability to apply agile practices to delivery
  • Possess AWS certification
