JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary/Objective: The Head Start Instructional Coach is responsible for the coordination and implementation of the Bucks IU Head Start coaching model, as required by the Head Start Performance standards and state and federal mandates. The Coach will utilize the Head Start Program Performance Standards, the Head Start Act, the Pennsylvania Learning Standards for Early Childhood, and the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework to ensure that program requirements are met. A key objective for this position is the professional development of Head Start and Early Head Start educators in collaboration with other team members who share responsibility for professional development . The Coach will ensure quality of service delivery, while protecting the privacy of customers and families.

  • Provide coaching to the learners that supports their professional skill development to help them gain knowledge they need to provide high quality services to children and families.
  • Build relationships with staff based on mutual respect.
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills, practice conflict resolution skills, have an ongoing commitment to learning; possess good observation skills, model best practices working with young children.
  • Ensure that education staff are providing a developmentally appropriate classroom environment using designated curriculum, School Readiness goals, CLASS and Early Learning Framework.
  • Provide assigned learners with professional and relationship based coaching using the designated coaching model and the curriculum coaching guide that are designed to increase the quality of teacher child interactions as measured by CLASS using research based methods and strategies to increase measureable child outcomes.
  • Regularly retrieve and review data with their learner to inform and improve day-to-day opportunities for children in their classrooms.
  • Create and follow the observation schedule when observing/monitoring classrooms.
  • Submit copies of observations to the Education Specialist at the end of each month.
  • Work with the Education Specialist to organize and facilitate project guided communities and study groups that embed current research.
  • Work with Head Start Education Specialist and Management Team to identify improvement areas to impact ongoing work of project, classroom and individual learner's level.
  • Travel within the County to provide coaching model.
  • Attend required Head Start meetings.
  • Attend community events and meetings as needed to support the agency programs including evening and weekend events/meetings.
  • Must complete 15 hours of annual training in addition to CPR, First Aid and Blood Borne Pathogen training.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility : There are no supervisory responsibilities within this role.

Work Environment : This job operates in a professional office environment and/or early childhood classrooms with related exposure to communicable diseases. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Demands : The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the dut ies of this job, the employee may be required to lift and carry a child weighing 45 pounds in an emergency. The employee must be physically capable of performing CPR (with appropriate training). The employee must also be able to bend, sit on the floor or in a child's chair and/or squat when working with children .

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work : This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8: 00 AM to 4:00 PM. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel : This position will require a moderate level of travel.
