Position Description:


Staff in IT Engineering are responsible for researching, designing, mapping, developing, documenting, testing and deploying new technologies in order to enhance credit union operations. They develop and apply models, processes, tools, standards, roadmaps and methodologies to support the organizations technical infrastructure as it relates to systems, networks, servers, endpoints, storage, databases, and telecommunications. They ensure that new systems are implemented with adequate capacity and appropriate business continuity and disaster recovery capabilities.


Advanced IT professional providing technical leadership in multiple areas of the organizations technical infrastructure and effectively contributing to technology innovation.


Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Serves as a technical resource for multiple areas of the technical infrastructure. Provides training and documentation for day-to-day support teams on backups, performance monitoring/tuning, proactive capacity planning, Disaster Recovery, granting user privileges/access, hardware/server/application/service monitoring, patching/updating, and group policy administration.

  • Assist with technical blueprints, translating logical architecture into physical specifications. Directs and oversees most aspects the implementation effort.

  • Troubleshoots most problems within assigned area(s), providing fault isolation and resolution that may be complicated by technology interdependency. Analyzes cross-technology/platform issues and addresses problems factoring in an understanding of the current and future architecture.

  • Assists in evaluation of new technologies relative to their domain(s). Proposes technology investments supported by a thorough technical analysis and business case.

  • Serves as a participant in industry forums, bringing new technical information into the organization and disseminating it to appropriate IT colleagues.

  • Specifies the monitoring points to assess performance of technologies in their domain(s). Recommends the necessary actions to ensure optimal performance and reliability.

  • Assists developing disaster recovery and contingency goals for their areas of expertise.

  • Provides guidance and technical coaching to less experienced staff.

  • Provides input to RFI and RFP process related to their areas of expertise

  • Interacts with major providers at the technical expert level to address mission critical issues.

Minimum formal education required for this position:


Knowledge consistent with a Bachelors Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field.


Each year of relevant work experience may be exchanged for a year in a relevant degree program or vice versa. For example, a requirement of Knowledge Consistent with a Bachelors Degree in Accounting and 2+ years of accounting experience could be substituted for a High School Diploma and 6 years of relevant accounting work experience or a Masters Degree in Accounting and 0 years of work experience.


Minimum work experience:


6+ years combined experience in Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC), networking, security, MS system administration, Disaster Recovery, storage technology, server management, databases, endpoint client management to include at least 2 years of Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC)



Technical or specialized knowledge/skills:


  • Must be able to function as a resource and expert within the company for multiple technical areas. Knowledgeable in implementing efficient procedures for backups, performance monitoring/tuning, proactive capacity planning, Disaster Recovery, granting user privileges/access, hardware/server/application/service monitoring, patching/updating, and group policy administration.

  • Good understanding of IT systems/data security as it relates to financial institutions or other industries that must comply with federal regulations.

  • Ability to apply expertise in multiple technologies to address interoperability issues.

  • Must demonstrate a good understanding of new technologies and their applicability relative to assigned domain(s).

  • Must demonstrate a good understanding of the current and future technology architecture, including the inter-operability of technologies.

  • Ability to provide guidance and training to other IT colleagues in their areas of expertise.

  • Understands business trends, strategies and the direction technology must take to support the business.

  • Strong communication skills (written, verbal, and listening) with specific ability to translate technical details to a non-technical audience.

  • Excellent analytical skills.

  • Proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Project, and Visio.

  • Participates in workshops to collect client data and document configuration needs for the project: client roles, job responsibilities, processes.

  • Document necessary field information (drop down, free form, type info needed, field restrictions). Identifies, assesses, and manages resolution of issues.

  • Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC).

  • Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) Architecture.

  • Develop business case for improvements and assist with presenting business case to client executives to seek buy-in.

  • Assist with the design and implementation of solutions based on industry leading practices, conducting design workshops and formulating solutions that can be implemented to achieve desired business results.

  • Performing assessment of company assets and help clients develop and improvement roadmap.

  • Apply analytics to determine improvement opportunities and enable business decisions.

Certifications required:


  • None required, however technical certifications, project / process certifications are valuable.

  • (Recommended) At least one of the following:
    • PLM

    • CCNA

    • MCSA

    • CompTIA Sec+

    • VCP

Environmental, physical and psychological requirements:


  • Must be able to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time in a climate-controlled environment. Must be able to use fingers, hands, wrists for repetitive tasks such as typing, using a mouse, handling paper, and operating a telephone. Demands for visual and auditory acuity are typical of an office environment. Must be able to interact via email, telephone, or in person with diplomacy, tact, and courtesy with all members under varying circumstances. Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs.

Salary range for this position: $80,475.20-$120,702.40(This position is eligible for an annual corporate bonus based upon performance)
