Summary: Tetra Tech is seeking a junior-level Chemical/Mechanical Engineer to assist with design of projects involving water treatment design, primarily coal mine drainage (both active and passive). The successful candidate will provide engineering and technical support, working with a group of other design engineers. Experience with water sampling and evaluation related to stream assessments, AMD discharge characterization, AMD treatment system/plant performance and watershed restoration is required. Experience with OSMRE's AMDTreat software is desirable.

Your Role:

  • Assisting with sizing of equipment such as vessels, pump, water/wastewater treatment process equipment, pipelines, heat exchangers, valves.
  • Assisting with design and sizing of piping and pumps.
  • Assisting with design and sizing of passive treatment system components.
  • Developing Process documents such as Process Design Basis (PDBs), Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), Process Flow Diagrams (PFD), mass balances, sequences of operation.
  • Interfacing with other engineering disciplines, water chemistry laboratories, and equipment vendors.
  • Assisting with cost estimates.
  • Co-author Operating Manuals, treatability studies, design memorandums and other technical reports.
  • Other duties may be assigned.


Qualifications:
  • BS degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • At least 2 years of relevant water/wastewater treatment experience is required. Preference will be given to experience with coal mine drainage treatment.
  • Must be able to read, interpret, and understand design drawings and specifications, watershed restoration plans, TMDLs, AMD treatment system operation and maintenance (O&M) plans, and other technical or engineering reports.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical documents and procedures, and government regulations.
  • Ability to write detailed reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. (Must have experience in technical report writing requirements, beyond reports prepared in school).
  • Ability to effectively present information, communicate, and respond to questions from groups of coworkers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Must be computer literate and competent in MS Word and Excel. Capability in other Microsoft Office suite products is desired.
  • The position is primarily in the office with occasional travel within the PA-OH-WV area.
