The Lower School teacher at the K12 Private Academy is typically assigned to a specific grade level or grade levels in a homeroom model, where the assigned teacher supports learning across all subject areas. The Lower School teacher works with parents as well as students, to support their use of the K12 curriculum. The position also ensures students achieve mastery of learning objectives; provides guidance, instruction, and support; manages the learning process and focus on students individual needs, and actively works with students and parents to advance each childs learning.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Monitor student progress through K12s interactive lessons and daily assessments

  • Support the goals of the Private Pay Business Unit

  • Work with supervisor to ensure Teacher Effectiveness goals are met

  • Learn the curriculum in its entirety for assigned grade levels

  • Understand overall diversity of assigned families and individual characteristics of students/parents

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the national standards and how both align with the K12 curriculum
  • Support parents with student curricular and instructional issues

  • Responsible for student academic progress and attendance

  • Conduct conferences with parents/responsible adults and students

  • Individualize instruction to help each student achieve K12 curricular objectives

  • Collect and review work samples. Grade work, as appropriate

  • Alert administrators to any concerns about student performance and progress

  • Maintain regular contact with students and families according to established expectations
  • Recommend promotion and retention per school policy

  • Build community by contributing to school message boards, newsletter and events
  • Implement school policies and procedures
  • Organize social and educational activities for students and families, including sponsorship of one virtual club

  • Establish and maintain a positive rapport with assigned families.

  • Support parents with school set-up and logistics questions

  • Support parents with set-up and maintenance of their teaching environment.

  • Coordinate academically-oriented clubs and extracurricular activities

If selected, you will participate in a year-long, comprehensive new teacher training and induction program that includes learning about K12 resources, our culture and how to work on our platforms. This program provides an opportunity to meet colleagues and learn the responsibilities required for delivering curriculum in an online environment.You will also learn how to monitor student progress through K12s learning management system, and to be a partner actively working with students and parents to advance each childs learning.

Requirements:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.


  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university and three years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Preferred to have experience working in a virtual environment

Certificates and Licenses:

  • Must have appropriate state teacher and subject matter certifications.

  • Preferred to have additional certifications to accompany the K-5 Certification.
