Job Description

Takedas LA site has achieved much throughout its history and is now positioned to take advantage of some key opportunities to better serve patients with plasma-derived therapies. To do so, we need to change the way we run our operations, have people firmly at the heart, and internalize the right behaviors and mindsets. We need a guide, someone who has lived fully in a lean organization, someone who knows what good looks and feels like, someone who has the commitment, drive and persistence to get us there.

You have over ten years experience working at an organization that is recognized for its deeply lean environment. Ideally, most of your time will have been in line-management. Certainly, you have the necessary gravitas to gain the respect of our people. You are influential, able to build robust, honest relationships with people, respectfully challenge and get people to change how they do things. You relish working with people who have not experienced a truly lean environment, particularly coaching people-leaders in what it means to lead with people at the center. You will exert a consistent, firm but respectful pressure that over time transforms the way we work.

You will lead and coach a small team of bright, energetic people whose capabilities youll develop to benefit them through the rest of their careers.

While your experience may be in other industries, youre capable of learning enough about our process to appropriately translate and add value. For example, you are comfortable guiding root cause problem-solving as a coach in the method, without being a subject matter expert. You know the terminology of lean such as nemawashi and kamishibai, but you prefer to use plain language to explain to those who dont.

Operational Responsibilities

  • Coach and mentor manufacturing, quality and maintenance leaders in the workplace to change behaviors to be consistent with lean principles.
  • Coach and mentor operational excellence champions who report to you to build their capabilities.
  • Interpret Takedas operating system tools and mechanisms to ensure an effective, coherent system that drives continuous improvement.
  • Focus on valuable outcomes for our patients and consequently trust of our people, reputation in society and lastly business value.
  • Make performance visible, ensure root-cause problem solving, and drive effective, needs-driven improvement through and with people.
  • Collaboratively develop plans with operational leaders to progress on the continuous improvement journey, monitor and course correct, escalating promptly where necessary.
  • Support the site policy deployment process to ensure focus on the critical few, alignment of our people and help translate site goals into daily actions
  • Work with senior site leaders to adopt people-centered leadership and frequent, purposeful gemba walks.

Qualifications

  • Have a demonstrated passion for challenging the status quo and relentlessly trying to improve operations.
  • Knowledge of Bio-pharmaceutical manufacturing or FDA regulated operations an advantage
  • Proven record of delivery of results
  • Deep understanding of lean fundamentals, approaches, techniques and systems
  • Strong negotiation, influence, consultation, and facilitation skills.
  • Clearly demonstrate structured, logical, critical and analytical thinking.
  • Self-motivated and self-directed.
  • Demonstrated leadership and mentoring skills. A positive and resilient leader. Ability to lead and motivate teams to achieve business goals.
  • Must have strong organizational and project management abilities
  • Must be able to train others and work with employees on all levels.
  • Must be able to work extended hours and various shifts
  • Courage of conviction and open to critical feedback
  • Excellent coaching, teaching, and communication skills
  • Courage/experience to provide coaching/feedback to all levels of the organization including site senior leaders
  • Excellent listening skills and emotional intelligence
  • Flexible and agile learning ability, demonstrating ability to assimilate new knowledge and standards quickly.

Education and Experience

  • Preferred ten years of experience in a company well-recognized for its lean operations (Toyota, NUMMI, Nippon Denso, Danaher or similar) required
  • Experience coaching lean in an early-stage-lean organization an advantage
  • Typically requires bachelor's degree, preferably in science, engineering, or other related technical field, along with 8+ years of related experience with 3+ in a management role
  • Qualifications/Experience in industrial engineering, coaching and/or learning & development an advantage
  • Experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing or FDA regulated operations an advantage
  • Experience in process industry an advantage.

Physical Demands and Working Environment

  • Must be able to lift, push, pull and carry up to 10 lbs.
  • In general, the position requires a combination of sedentary work and walking around observing conditions in the facility.
  • Must be able to work in controlled environments requiring special gowning. Will be required to follow gowning requirements and wear protective clothing over the head, face, hands, feet and body.
  • No make-up, jewelry, contact lenses, nail polish or artificial fingernails may be worn in the manufacturing environment.
  • Will work in a cold, wet environment
  • Must be able to work multiple shifts, including weekends.
  • Must be able to work overtime as required. (only for non-exempt positions)
  • May be required to work in a confined area.
  • Some Clean Room and cool/hot storage conditions.
