The Library Associate is responsible for performing all functions of the night manager (will be alone during closing) and supervising Circulation operations and services from 6:00 pmuntil midnight Mondays through Thursdays.Provides patrons with services and information at the Circulation Desk.Oversees stacks maintenance of librarys physical volumes and searches for missing library materials.Responsible for identifying overdue library materials and carrying out all steps involved in the encumbrance process.Maintains library signage and repairs library materials.

Duties:
  • Acts as library's night manager (solo operation with closing responsibilities).Is in charge of Circulation from 6:00 until midnight Mondays through Thursdays and performs/oversees closing procedures.
  • Performs all Circulation desk duties including checking in and out materials, using the library's automated patron database/catalog system (Alma), and maintaining patron records.
  • Participates in the supervising of 10-13 student employees.These duties include collection and prescreening of applications and participating in student worker interviews. Assists, directs, trains, and supervises student techs in circulation as well as other public service access units, as needed.
  • Oversees library stacks maintenance, including directing student workers, inspecting book stacks on a regular basis to ensure materials are stored neatly and in order, and ensuring end panel signs are accurate.Assigns and monitors shelf-reading assignments.Informs supervisor when shifting is necessary and participates in book shifting.
  • Oversees all tasks associated with missing library materials including identifying missing materials, performing detailed searches of the library stacks for missing items, and documenting the search process.
  • Handles claims return process, records, and maintains files. Accesses the librarys system and changes the status of materials.Oversees formal, detailed search for material.Contacts patrons and tactfully explain the results of a search.
  • Uses the library systems overdue module to create, assemble, and distribute all overdue and encumbrance notices.
  • Oversees library book repair process. Performs minor repairs to damaged books and notifieslibrarians of damaged materials in their subject areas.
  • Create and update library signage related to hours, library events, and other information relevant to the public. Performs all other duties as assigned.


Required:

1. Bachelor's degree.

2.Minimum two years of library, office, or customer service experience.

3.Knowledge of LC and Dewey classification systems.

4.Skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint).

5.Skilled with fulfillment and item management functions of Alma integrated library system.

6.Skilled in basic graphic design (Publisher, Canva).

7.Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.

8.Problem-solving abilities, especially in resolving issues with patrons.

9.Ability to supervise student employees when Circulation Supervisor is not present.
